Great Harvest Bread Company

Contributed by Kimberly Stromgren

If you and your children would like to see how Montana wheat berries go from rock hard nuggets to warm, soft, baked bread visit Mr. Ian Kidd at the Great Harvest Bread Company in Duluth.

Ian will take groups of 8 to 10 through the process of baking bread. He also hands out worksheets on the parts of each grain, coloring books, and he will even give your group a small bowl of the wheat berries prior to your visit if you would like to try grinding your own flour. We did this at our co-op and it really made an impression on the kids! Or you can purchase wheat at Michaels (in the dry flowers section) and seperate the berry from the rest - really fun.

Give Ian a call. It makes for a fun morning. The whole field trip takes about half an hour, then you can visit and munch on Great Harvest treats. Yum!

Parents Night Out

Northland C.O.R.E. will be hosting a Parents Night Out four times over the coming year. These will be informal gatherings with the purpose of sharing information or just visiting with fellow homeschooling parents.

Resource files will be made available, if someone is looking for details on a certain topic or would like to know more about area opportunities.

The evening will run from 7:00 - 9:00pm. Come for the whole time and relax, or stop in for a short visit if thats all that will fit your schedule.

Mark this date on your calendar:
March 10, 2003

Location: Barnes & Noble, Miller Hill Mall.
Look for the area set aside for Northland C.O.R.E.

All home educators are welcome to participate in C.O.R.E. meetings or events regardless of methods or philosophies of homeschooling. Non-members are welcome at all C.O.R.E. events.
