| Blue came to us about a month after Sandy. She remained at Smithvale being run-on. We would go over and visit every day (as Sandy stayed there during the day as we didnt have someone home all day to look after her) and Blue would go and lie with Andrew while he watched golf on TV. No matter what time of the day or night, Blue would lie there watching sport with the men. Andrew fell in love with her. Rosemary and the breeder, Bryan Kelly (Cottoncove) thought she was lovely and that she would certainly show. Luckily I gave in and we took her. She has certainly done us proud. Blue is an elegant, sound bitch, with no exaggeration or overangulation, lovely length of loin, beautiful topline, good shoulder with a beautiful head and expression. We couldn't have asked for a better foundation bitch. We hope to continue breeding Whippets of such quality. Blue is a real personality. She talks when she wants something and comes and stands over you when she wants attention (especially if you are reading the newspaper, magazine or watching TV). She bites your arm when she greets you and we have to warn visitors that she is actually loving them or they think she is attacking them. She loves the Frisbee and tennis balls. We will have to try Flyball with her one day, but she thinks it is more fun to be chased with the ball in her mouth than to bring it back to you. She also practices selective hearing (but dont all Whippets?) Blue is also a real bedbug, but unfortunately feels the need to kick you out of the bed when she gets too cramped or hot. Whippets certainly make the best bed warmers in winter. Blue became a Champion with ease at the age of 18 months (last CC has to be at 18 months of age before a Championship Title is awarded). She took a number of BOB, RBOB and Group Placings, but never hit the bright lights. She HATES showing with a passion. It is just one of those things that we have had to accept. We now only show her very selectively. In August 2000 we showed Blue at the Goldfields Kennel Club CH Show where she won RBOB (at the age of almost 6) under Specialist Judge, Denise Clarke (New Zealand). We were thrilled with this win as this is the biggest SA dogshow. In February 1997 we bred Blue to her Grandfather, CH Smithvale Galaxy. She gave us a beautiful litter of 11 and we unfortunately lost 2 of them. Blue was an excellent mother and simply loved her puppies. We kept two dogs and a bitch from that litter to start our own line. Patch, Brindie and Nikki. |
