About our Messianic Jewish Wedding Ceremony
Huppah
Ketubah
What exactly is Messianic Judiasm?
Breaking the glass
Among Jewish people today there are various denominations or forms of Jewish faith. These include Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and others. In recent years another kind of Judaism has emerged. It is called Messianic Judaism. Like the others, it is a way of expressing love for and obedience to the God of Israel. And again, like other forms, Messianic Judaism has its own unique quality. Our very special place in the sun centers on our conviction that Jesus, who we call by his Hebrew name, Yeshua, is the long-awaited Messiah and King of the Jewish people. Like all other forms of Judaism, we seek to live in ways which resonate with our Jewish past and present. But our Messiah takes center-stage as we seek to live as faithful Jews.
The Huppa is the canopy under which the new couple says their vows.  It is representative of their home and the life that they will build together.
These are the small hats worn by jewish men as a reminder that God is above them.
Kippah or Yarmulke
The Ketubah is traditionaly the contract which is signed by the bride,  groom and witnesses at the wedding.  Usually highly decorated, couples often frame them and hang them in their houses. It is said that if the couple gets into an argument, they should read over their Ketubah to be reminded of the promises that they made to each other on a day that they were surrounded by love and good wishes.
At the end of the wedding ceremony, the groom steps on a glass wrapped in a towel and breaks it.  This is a symbol of mourning for the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem centuries ago. Even a joyous affair like a wedding must have a reminder that our world is still not yet a perfect place.
Circling the Groom
During the ceremony the bride walk in circles around the groom seven times. This is symbolic for the bride saying  this is my husband no one elses. And this is my home just mine and his.  It is also a symbol of the couple intertwining their lives together through marriage.
