Sadly, their romantic week in Spain came to an end.

| On May 24, 2002 Bill boarded an airplane heading for sunny Spain with something very special in his backpack... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Julie left for the beachside town of Alicante, Spain in January 2002 for a semester of �studying�. Shortly thereafter Bill asked Julie�s father for her hand in marriage over dinner at Not Your Average Joes (Julie�s Dad�s favorite restaurant). He picked out a lovely diamond solitaire engagement ring shortly after receiving enthusiastic approval from his future father-in-law. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In March Bill flew to Spain to visit Julie for her birthday. They spent a magnificent week in Madrid and Mallorca, an island off the coast of Spain. While in Mallorca he bought Julie a Mallorcan pearl ring that came in a tacky red oyster shaped ring box. They spent the rest of the day driving across the Island in an old �convertible� Fiat Panda. The Pearl birthday ring lasted about 2 days before the lovely black pearl disengaged from the glue which held it to the silver band. Sadly, their romantic week in Spain came to an end. |

| Two months later Bill returned to Spain to claim his bride. Julie�s �study� abroad program was over and they were going to spend two weeks backpacking around western Europe. Bill arrived in Alicante on May 25th, and Julie him at the airport. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After a large comida (lunch) of paella with Julie�s Spanish familia they walked along the boardwalk of Alicante watching boats come and go. While walking Julie asked to borrow Bill�s chapstick but since there were locks on all of the pockets of Bill�s backpack, she decided to wait until they sat down to get it. When they reached the benches they sat down and Julie opened the front pocket of Bill�s backpack. She immediately noticed the tacky red ring box and grabbed it out of his bag exclaiming, "MY RING!" As she opened the box she was astonished to find that Bill had not brought her back her pearl ring, but had swapped it with the diamond. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
