of family, hard work, and the U.S.A. Toby Keith, one
of country music’s biggest stars, is back on tour,
this time to promote his latest album "Honky Tong
University." The Oklahoma native is sure to put on a
good show having sold millions of albums behind such
hits as “Who’s Your Daddy,” “When We Were In Love,”
“Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry
American),” and many others. Keith recently signed a
deal with Harrah's Las Vegas to launch a new
country-themed bar and restaurant, scheduled to open
its doors next summer. The restaurant will offer
American casual food, and the bar/lounge will
feature Keith music and videos, a special recording
studio, private dining area, stage and dance floor
for live country acts, and surprise personal
appearances by Keith himself. Keith's trek has draws
crowds approximately 40,000-plus fans. His album’s,
Greatest Hits 2, first single, "Stays in Mexico," is
already getting airplay on country radio stations.
The singer's latest all-new album is 2002's Shock 'N
Y'all, which is certified triple-platinum in the
U.S. Greatest Hits 2 features 11 tracks from
previous Keith albums and three new tracks. Besides
"Stays in Mexico," the new songs include a cover of
the James Taylor/Carly Simon duet "Mockingbird" that
features Keith's 16-year-old daughter Crystal, and
"Go with Her."
Born and
raised in Oklahoma, Toby Keith began performing in
his grandmother’s night club. He started his career
in an oil industry and was a defensive player with
Oklahoma City Drillers State Football League team.
Toby Keith became a favorite solo performer there in
the 90s. His 1993 debut album TOBY KEITH featured
"Should've Been a Cowboy," which went to No. 1 on
the Billboard country singles chart. His self-titled
album was a certified platinum along with three
other #1 hits on the country charts: “Wish I Didn’t
Know Now,” He Ain’t Worth Missing,” and “A Little
Less Talk & A Lot More Action.” Billboard Magazine
declared him Top New Country Artist. Over the next
decade, Toby Keith released ten albums, most going
platinum - and tickets to his concerts became a
red-hot commodity. In 2002 when he recorded
"Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry
American)," a super-patriotic ode to September 11
attack that became one of country's most highly
charged political statements. Even people with no
knowledge of country music started recognizing him
as "the guy with the 'boot in the ass' song," a
memorable lyric from that song. It introduced him to
a more mainstream audience. The 2002 album Unleashed
sold 3 million copies, due to the lively "Who's Your
Daddy?" The album spent 65 weeks on the top-10
Billboard Country Albums chart. Keith authorized the
re-election of President George W. Bush in 2004 and
performed at a Dallas rally on the night before the
election.
