St. Matthew's - Maryland Community Ministry is a joint ministry of St. Matthew's
Anglican Church and Winnipeg Presbytery of the United Church of Canada. It is
located in inner-city Winnipeg in a neighbourhood which is densly populated with
a high concentration of low income, single parent families. Within this context
the Ministry strives to achieve the goals of community building and empowerment
with a vision of healthy community where everyone experiences the promise of
abundant life.
In our programming we attempt to balance meeting basic needs, enabling personal
transformation through self-help education and skill development and working for
social and political change. Currently, these goals are being addressed through
the following programs: Drop-in Resource Centre, Food Supplement Program,
Artists' Circle, Diabetes Prevention Project, Family Cooking & Activity Night, Community Clean-Ups,
Community Gardens, Summer Children's Program, and The Preserving Project.
Volunteers do nearly every task connected with the programs and services
offered through the St. Matthew's - Maryland Community Ministry.
