Diabetes Prevention Info
The goals of the Diabetes Prevention Project are to help people in the West Central
community eat nutritious foods and be physically active. How do we do this? There
are a number of cooking programs available to help people have nutritious food and to
learn about nutrition and cooking. We always cook things that are low cost and pretty
easy to do. We also have a number of activities you can try. Again, we try to find
activities that don't require fancy equipment and that are fun.
Examples of our programs:
Food to Go - This is a program in which a small group of people cook healthy, low
cost meals for their family, with others. People in the program learn about nutrition,
shopping tips and cooking skills. Childcare is provided.
Cooking Club - The Cooking Club meets twice a month to share the cooking and
eating of a meal. People learn new recipes, about nutrition and new skills in the
kitchen.
Tai Chi - We are able to offer tai chi, a gentle form of exercise that is well
known for its health benefits. This course covers the first 17 moves in tai chi.
Child care is provided.
Scavenger Hunt and Community Feast - these have been one day or one evening events that include fun activities and good food.
