AKF Finds Justice For Dogs
Posted August 12, 2011
By: Celine Viray

Last July 31st, 2011 the Animal Kingdom Foundation, Inc., (AKF) along with the Cordillera police were able to send Demetrio Palawi, Rogelio Miana, Jun Jun Bugayong and Marlon Barte to an one year sentence in prison for illegal slaughter and meat trade of dogs. During their trial hearings, held in Bagiuo, the court found them to be guilty of Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines) and RA 9482 (Anti-Rabies Act of 2007). As of July 20, the four victims were also found to have been transporting 30 dogs, which were already prepared to be slaughtered and sold off for meat-trade.

AKF along with the International Wildlife Coalition Trust (IWCT) help put this case to rest, by advocating awareness for the illegal slaughtering and meat-trade of dogs. Ivy Buenaobra, and AKF educator, spoke to the Inquirer regarding the issue and said, “This shows that the law has teeth. The law is not only [good in] paper but not… in practice. This only proves that we can restore our trust in the justice system.”

AKF Rescues 67 Dogs
Posted August 9, 2011

Last March 21, 2011, AKF was able to gather information about dogs that were being sent to San Pedro, Laguna, being prepared for slaughter. In collaboration with the Cabugao, Laguna Police, AKF was able to identify the people involved and save these dogs. They were able to find “sixty-seven muzzled and hog-tied” dogs.

After the dogs were rescued, AKF then transferred to their rescue truck bound for the Cabugao, laguna police station. The persons involved in this crime were charged in court, however, no one charged guilty, since they were able to escape during the evening, crossing Laguna Lake.

AKF is now sheltering these rescued dogs in their female dog shelter, wherein some of the dogs have already given birth to liters of puppies.

Doggy Weekend
Posted May 30, 2011
By: Celine Viray

On this same day last year, a dog wash weekend was held in Hobes and Landes
(Bonifacion High Street branch, from 10 am – 6 pm). Today we commemorate this event that included bathing and grooming services for all the pups interested, pet
clubs for fellow dog lovers to discuss different concerns, and a photo op with
your favorite pup.

All donations and profit generated from the event were turned over to Animal Kingdom Foundation, an animal rights activist. A year after, we would like to once again thanks those who showed up and expressed love for their canine friends!
