In a beautiful place because of Geography and Climate, Dulazar Corporation
provides housing as a loan ( without rent ) to elderly people that
have endured very difficult economic conditions.
In a beautiful place on the hills overlooking the city of Medelln,
Colombia.
The sight of the valley is wonderful. Behind our homes, there are great
mountains full of majestic pine trees.

Photos : the apartments for our senios citizens are very lovely and confortable.
There is complete freedom to get in and out. This is not a prison or a
reclusive institution, but a place of love, solidarity and companionship.
Photos : The virtues of the original building from 192X were kept and improved
: For example a gigantic saloon was left intact, other spacious rooms were
respected and not touched. This areas are successfully used for communitary
and social events, such as parties, dancing, music.....
For the Elderly, such space is an invitation to get out of their apartmentes
and to participate in life. Beautiful mosaics and steps from long gone times
were spared and give a tone of romance and homeliness.

The homes of San Carlos were built as the renovation of an old building,
1500 square meters, 24 apartaments with green zones, big comunitary rooms
and a gimnasium.
42 persons live now here, they have found company, solidarity and a roof.
Some of their relatives are young and this increases the sense of integration
to life and the possibilities of mutual help. The young people work inside and
outside, they get the prescriptions for the elderly, they help, go with their
old relatives to the physician, and most important, they generate income for
the family.

Photos : The place were Homes of San Carlos is located is very pleasant and surrounded by mountains and forests. An effort was done to preserve gardens and orchards. The dogs can roam happily and freely.
Each family is autonomous and responsible for its own apartment and food.
This is not a refuge or a prison with bars, everybody has his own budget,
his own meals and schedules, and gets out whenever he or she wants.
There is total independence for each human being for a normal life.
With the advantage of having friends and common projects, nobody is forced
to participate in parties, games, activities or works. We have observed that
these families are very enthusiastic about these social activities and nobody
stays at home, except the sick.
This system of not depending on an institution for food and meals,
schedules, clothes, laundry, etc, helps people to stay young and sprightful,
our eldest citizens are vital, they keep their mental and physical health without
being monitored like prisoners. However there is strong solidarity with the
neighbors in case of sickness, chirurgy, or emergencies.

The zone were we executed this project was greatly benefited. This
institution is an excellent neighbor, and much better than the workshops
or social clubs that were previously occupying the building.
Some neighbors are young families with children and they recognize the
improvment.
| Photo to the Left : Small apartments were created for the Elderly and their younger companions. With special love and care for the sense of Home, Confort and Community. |
The Senior Citizens love their friends of the Community, They have their
pets and plants, they are worried if someone is sick and care for the
neighbor who is in bed...
This is not a prison, or a closed institution, Everybody can get out and
take the streed, there are no guardians or keepers. The younger companions
get out to work everyday.

Special Care to preserve the History of the Building and its original
architectonic virtues. |
Our Senior Citizens long for more and better opportunities of employment.
They dream that private entrepreneurs send more 'maquila' work
( that is making clothes, dolls, food, etc... ). It's wonderful when they
can work at home, since their age can limit their mobility.
