Misc. Halloween Projects
Breaded Corn Rats
On this page we will house some of the misc. projects we are working on. We did not have enough time for the 2008 season to get all these planned things done so we will continue to work on them for the 2009 season. These were projects for the Cadaver Cafe & Candy Kitchen which is an ongoing project in our kitchen. Since the kids come directly into the kitchen to get their popcorn & treat bags we wanted to have the counters full of fake gory foods. Somewhere on the net I saw a halloween site that made this concession stand with all these gory foods in it so thats where the idea came from. Only a couple of projects got done here and were on the counter for 2008, I think the adults got a bigger kick out of them than the kids but all in all everybody had fun with these. We will continue to look for new ideas to add more food items. Please if anyone has any suggestions send us an email. Thank You
I bought a whole box of plastic rats with 12 inch tails. We used the same paint on them as we used for the creepy caramel apples. I picked the caramel color out at Walmart & we paid a bit more for the paint but the lady in the paint dept. said she uses this paint for crafts and it goes on great & stays on.
After the second coat was put on and while it was still wet we rolled the rats in sawdust to produce what looked like a breadcrumb coating.
Here is the finished item on the counter in the kitchen. I made little signs for them. They really should have been hanging in the air by their long tails. Would have produced a better effect......next year!
Creepy Caramel Apples
This project did not get done...we ran out of time. The apples were purchased at JoAnns fabric store. I was so lucky cause I found them on sale for .25 each. What a break!
I just want to mention that if you buy apples that are heavy this does not work very good. I had bought 3 apples from Walmart before stumbling onto these smaller, lighter ones at JoAnn's. First we drilled a hole on the top of the apple where the stick would go in. You can get sticks at any craft store. I have cases of them in different sizes for our candy business Next you want to paint the apples and they will need a couple of coats. Make sure they do not touch each other or they stick together.
This was made to hold the apples and it was going to be used in the Cadaver Cafe. These were suppose to have ants, roaches and flies hot glued to them so that was not done altho we do have all the insects. (2008)
This will get completed for the 2009 season.
Finger Foods
The idea here was to serve a tray of crackers with various toppings!
From scrap pieces of wood we cut out little cracker shaped pieces. They were also painted with the same caramel colored paint & left to dry.
Here is a bowl of the various toppings! Ultra Fresh Of Course!!!
Here the toppings were hot glued to the crackers.
We placed them in a circular design around a huge white 18 inch wedding cake platter with a note on top that said,"Finger Food". They were a big hit!
Rotten Cotten Candy
Everything got bought to make these but once again we ran out of time, so we will see these for the 2009 season. We have sticks and will add that fluffy stuff you buy in the bag at the craft store. It gets lightly sprayed with red spray paint and bugs are hot glued on!

Bottles for the "Spell & Potion" Room
Since the 2006 season we have been letting the kids come into the house. There was really not enough time to perfect things so we are taking different projects now and trying to complete them. There is a huge mirror that goes in the center of the table in the spell & potion room, it is filled with various sized old medicine bottles from the 1800's and in the center of the mirror there is a fog bowl that changes colors. This week I bought spray paints, twine, corks, and burlap to make a lot of my bottles and jars looked aged and interesting. The jars, bottles and little medicine bottles will all get labels and be filled with contents that will make them more amusing to the kids. This section will cover the works of making these and will also include pictures. (COMING)
Paper Mache Rocks to cover our outdoor spotlights
I saw these on Ghostess' web site and just loved them. Here you will find all the details and pictures of that project! (COMING)
Paper Coffins
Paper Coffins are from the web site....."Raven's Blight". I wanted to give something cute to the adults that come in the house and visit us for Halloween so after making one of these I wondered if all this work would really be worth it. I cut them out, glue them on posterboard, cut them out again. Attached the inside liners, then assembled the casket with glue. After both the bottom and lid are done and believe me you get better as you go along with these, then I'm mod podging the entire coffin which makes them pretty sturdy. I was worried they might have too much of an aftersmell from the glue but after sitting all night the smell completely disappears. We will fill the inside with gourmet chocolates we make in our business and a small scroll that tells where to find the Halloween web site for "Collinwood 841". This will be an ongoing project as it takes quite some time to print these out and cut, cut, cut and glue, glue glue......plus the downside is we need 100 of them!!!lol Pictures of project to follow.

Here we have the ants getting ready to get glued to the apples. I used a hot glue gun to attach them. I ran out of ants so there will be more photo's. Also we are going to attach these to something. (2009)
Leaving this section for the other Gore May foods. Will be made for 2009 season
