Witches Jars & Bottles
Here is a group of jars, tin cans & bottles made for 3 areas of our haunt....the Cadaver Cafe & Candykitchen, the Spell & Potion Room & the Witches Den in the garage.
I looked at some different sites for making these bottles & jars and it was interesting to see how many different ideas there were. I made some of my own labels and I also borrowed a few from Ghostess. I will have some fake foods in my kitchen & I wanted to have beverages with them so I made drink labels to attach to my bottles.
I had a bad time trying to dip the white paper in tea or coffee because my ink was running so I tried some different methods to age the paper & this one worked the easiest.
I took a few drops of "Old English" added them to warm water in a styrofoam cup & mixed them together.
I dabbed the paintbrush to get some of the color off & to make it a bit drier so as not to get the paper too wet. Then in the photo below I colored the sheet of paper & let it dry.
Next I cut the labels out & let them dry a bit more. Meanwhile while the labels were drying I colored whole sheets with the Old English & let them dry. Then I cut parts of the sheet of paper to fit the can & glued them on. After they dried I glued the label right on top of the paper.
Here it shows the paper glued on 1st & then the label glued on top of it. After the labels are on I use Mod Podge to cover the labels.
Here are cans ready for labels to be applied.
Glueing labels on.
Applying String
If you want some of your jars & bottles to be a little different you can attach string. Here I tied the string around the top of the jar & put some hot glue on the knot & also below the knot. Then I turned the jar in a circular fashion & wrapped the string around the jar each time making sure the string gets set down in the hot glue as you spin the jar. If your glue gets hard just reheat it w/ the tip of your glue gun.
Here the jar is finished so I put some hot glue in place to hold the string. Keep tight tension on the string until it dries then you can cut it. I also filled in some places with glue to make sure the string stays in place.
Finished Jars & Tin Cans
I used some burlap & shells to finish these off & they are not filled yet. Also I am making snails to go in the cans, an idea that came from a friend of Ghostess so there will be more photos here as I finish this project.
There will be a section going in here of small medicine bottles...its a project in progress
Beverage Bottles
The people come through our house for Halloween & they get their treats in our kitchen where we have a commercial popcorn machine set up. The kitchen is known as the "Cadaver Cafe & Candykitchen" & there on the counters along with the treats we set up fake foods so each year we try to make some new items to add. 2009 we will be adding some foods, creepy caramel apples, rotten cotten candy & some beverage bottles. These bottles below were painted & I designed the labels in my print program.
