The Witches Hats
I found this project in Ghostess' web site, she made them for decoration in her kitchen for her party & I just love them. So here is my attempt at making them!
Materials List:
Newspaper
Cardboard for the Base, you can use a pizza box & cut out the circle for the hat or you can use a cake board. I used 3 different sizes of pizza boxes for 3 different sized hats.
Duct Tape
White Glue
First I cut my circle for the brim of the hat out of the pizza boxes. I used Walmart pizza boxes so the bottom was soiled. I used a small plate to draw the circle for the inside of the hat. I then cut away the other parts of the pizza box & then used a rug cutter to cut out the inner circle. After that was done I took about 3 pieces of the newspaper and I cut 2 inch slits every 2 inches on the bottom on one side. These were going to act as flaps to hold the newspaper in place. I started with the 1st flap & bent it over the base of the hat & duct taped it on.
After that I turned the hat over & shaped a cone the best I could with the paper on top & I duct taped that together to form the cone. If the hat needs more shaping use your duct tape to shape it.
Next I duct taped the bottom of the newspaper to the base.
There are a few photo's I missed here so after taping to the base, crumple up newsapaper & fill the hat inside so it becomes sturdy. So that the paper inside does not come out duct tape the inside to keep the paper in place. Then start to paper mache.
Here are my five hats with only one layer of paper mache and they need at least 3 layers. I will post the rest of the photo's as I progress on this project.
