we zipped away on sunday after the breakfast and some extra goodbyes...  and a stop by the house to switch suitcases and download photos.  we arrived at hope and glory inn (in irvington, in virginia's northern neck) around 3.  formerly a schoolhouse, currently a romantic bed&breakfast, it was gorgeous.  the perfect little getaway for honeymooners with relaxation and a little exploration on their mind.

our cottage (#5) was a quaint little 2-story number with the sitting area and access to a private patio on the lower level, and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs.  it was like staying in a luxurious treehouse!  there was a huge silver maple outside the french doors in the bedroom, so when the doors were opened (essentially 2/3 of the wall), light filtered through a canopy of leaves an bark...  very fun.  added bonus:  my "october flowers" were on the table as we walked in the door...beautiful and appropriate for fall...that ryan!  what a swell man he is!!

we did our share of sleeping, reading, writing, and bonding, but also drove around the peninsula with the top down, scoping out the mini-beaches and singing to the cd player.  we stopped by historic christ church, built in 1735 and still a functional place of worship (after a sabattical...we each have our doubts...or schisms...at times), and perused the shopping in white stone, kilmarnock, and irvington, itself.  being a bed & breakfast, breakfast was at the inn daily at 9am, and we were on our own for lunch (twice ended up being willaby's) and dinner (trick dog cafe and the tides inn).  we were never let down. one night was champagne (ryan's treat), and a delicious fruit and cheese assortment (aunt betsy&uncle ed's treat!)...  heaven, i tell you.

hope & glory also boasts their own secluded outdoor tub and shower...of course we tried that out....  with champagne...  it seems we were the only couple there for the first couple days, so it was tremendously quiet and restful.  we set out for richmond after breakfast on wednesday, so we could have some serious movie-watching, cake-eating, present-opening, thank-you-note-writing, house-straightening fun before returning to work the following week!

will we return?  yes.
should you scope it out on your next trip out that way?  definately!
