so i encountered my first hurricane...mom says it was my second, the first being when i was 4mos old, but i don't remember that one well.

it was windy, rather scary, and i don't really feel like doing it again.
but hey, we had a good time.

the power did stay on pretty much, and we watched news and the weather channel while reassuing family over the phone and cooking s'mores on the stove.  water pressure was virtually non-existant until late saturday, but we heated water on the stove and pretended we were colonial...

our house fared well --just one tree that made like it was gonna get the kitchen, but changed its mind and went for the sideyard instead.  it took some shingles with it and smushed/cracked some siding....and relieved us of the remainder of screens on that side of the house.  !  similar stories in the neighbors' yards.  we casually counted 17 downed trees total in the neighborhood that's visible from our cul-de-sak, and 8 on the 5-minute drive to work.  plus downed power lines.

so much rain!  the reports vary from 4.5 to 7 inches, and i'm not sure how much fell in glen allen, but it was enough to have the whole yard in standing water.  it was mushy but not so pondy by the morning.
