so now it's a tradition:  emily and i play on labor day.  that makes two years in a row ..not only a tradition, but an established tradition at that!  we're on our way.

so this year emily took amtrak down in what was left of hurricane/tropical storm ernesto and arrived in DC on time...caught the metro out to vienna and i managed to pick her up in the dark...after some cel phone marco-polo.

we went to target (hard to get to in NYC), costco (next door), out for mexican food three times (i opted out the third time...ryan and emily can eat mexican til the cows come home...and our cows are long gone), and the international spy museum.  we'd have taken more pictures at the spy museum, but cameras were not allowed.  rats.  we settled for photo sessions outside instead.

we took the metro to the spy museum...but a bug in the online trip planner told us to get off in maryland...20 minutes beyond our destination!  i was in a hurry and didn't do my back-check with a map, and called ryan from the train to double check the directions...came up the same for him, too!  but the stationmasters there set us straight in a very friendly manner.  thanks, metro!

we ate lunch at the spy cafe (yum).  in the museum we each selected an alternate identity, and were quizzed about it a couple times in the museum.  we practiced our new information along the way-- i was carol lieu, a 42 yr old architect vacationing for four days in volograd, russia --born in santa monica, CA-- who was supposed to meet up with oksana karpol, secretay in the visitor's office,  at the museum for the stalingrad battle...she was to give me a visitors guide book with a top secret microdot in it --once i asked her nonchalantly about some pre-war models.  i was then to immediately depart for headquarters...  emily can tell you all about herself.. i barely remember her name.  ...greta...something...an astrologist.... all this while reading the displays and learning about all these famous spies and their downfalls and successes... and learning about the wehrmacht enigma.  woah to the enigma.

when we weren't out entertaining ourselves watering the neighbor's yard or the above mentioned activities, we were watching movies (sky captain and the world of tomorrow and pride and prejudice)  we got the giggles in pride and prejudice...it might have been the m&ms ...or recees pieces... or the drinks.  who knows...  !
