2006 - - the year the men almost won encore. as in...they really almost won it. we women were missing laura, which put us at a distinct disadvantage, but we managed to hold onto the title "the traditional winners of encore" ...but barely. holy toledo (as in ohio...round on the ends, hi in the middle).
before encore was the fondue feast, which i slept through due to some dairy mishap earlier (but it had been years since i'd had chuncky corn chowder...and it was sooooo good). mom zipped out to get me gingerale and i recovered enough to help my team hold onto the winning women's title. even though it's all about the band, we were focused on winning the game.
before the fondue feast was the candy creation afternoon --plane departure time from ORD on the 26th...candy house led straight into fondue...but before that was the train.
ryan and i took the sleeper car all the way to la crosse...and man was it fun. i hadn't taken a sleeper car since i was seven (colorado, 1983) and it's just as much fun now as it was then to punch the little buttons to turn on the lights. that, and there's just something refreshing about lying down to sleep...
back to christmas, the trees went up, nothing fell over (look mom, no strings!) and chevy only ate the christmas presents...and the trash....'coz she likes to get ryan into trouble. she left the food alone....almost.
no snow, but plenty of entertainment otherwise! we sent off rockets on the golf course, glittered pinecones, played the annual christmas facts-in-five, and tasted as well as voted on apples (taste, texture, aroma, on a scale of 1-10). the book of christmas supurlatives was hauled out, and we closed christmas day with poppers, paper party hats, and voting on the best dish (the new tree shaped one that held artichoke dip).
christmas...there ain't nothin' like the real thing.
