roof construction
Nov 6.  Our beams and boards arrived Tuesday afternoon.  On Wednesday we worked on evening out the top of the
walls with additional cob.  After the cob hardened we lifted the 4"x6" beams on the studio wall positioning the beams such that it would supported by areas of massive sections of cob (i.e. avoiding placement over windows, etc.)  2"x6" and 2"x8" lumber will be used as to secure the beams to the cob wall.  Once the beams are all secure, 1"x6" boards will be nailed on.

Nov 25.  It might snow a little today so we decided to use the day to gather materials to prepare installation of the steel roofing.

Nov 26. First thing in the morning we purchased a quantity of six 12ft sections of corrugated steel roofing. We loaded it on my surfboard racks on our car.  It was a little floppy on the racks but we were able to transport it without it blowing off.  We got to our lot and quickly installed the rafters.  Since it was a little windy we delayed installing steel roofing until the next day.

Nov 27.  Happy Thanksgiving!  We started first thing in the morning and installed the steel roofing.  It was pretty straightforward except for dealing with stovepipe.  Rather than lapping two sheets at section where stove pipe protrudes, I cut a hole directly through the steel panel and flashed it with a stove pipe storm guard. We finished everything at about noon and then headed back into town to get a turkey dinner!
