Came up Christmas Day. No snow on the ground in Minneapolis. Holyoke had 4-5 inches. A spruce grouse roosted in the balsam fir next to the cabin all night. Skies were clear. The stars were bright early in the evening. We caught three or four mice in the cabin. We saw lots of animal tracks on the island in the bog. Claude put out a deer block near the road. Weather was mild on Friday morning. It was getting clear and cold, later on in the day. We were able to cut and split firewood. We could have used our skis.
