Club M thrashes Hibs 5 - 0!

PUNGGOL - Club M was a rejunevated side against Hibernians with the return of Nicolas Moossa, Brian Tong and Kevin Chue in the side. The dodos' performance on Saturday can be hailed as one of the best so far in the Club's history. The players displayed great character and discipline throughout the match.

The defence was rock solid, midfields battled hard and the attackers just sublime. The dodos took early control of the match and scored within 5 minutes of the kick-off thanks to Ravi, who inherited a through pass from Nicolas Moossa and had only the keeper to beat. The Hibernians were dealt with a severe blow. They definitely were superior to the dodos in terms of size. The Hibernians played a very physical game trying to intimidate the dodos but they did little damage to the dodos' confidence and performance on the field.

The dodos kept the pressure on the opponents and in the 25th minute, Sandilen Cariapen, nicknamed "Sandi" by his team-mates, scored his first of four goals of the afternoon as he dribbled past a defender and the keeper as well to score in the empty net. There was joy and jubilation in the Mauritian camp. Sandi scored his second close to half-time with a sublime free-kick which was too much for the central defenders to handle and the ball was deflected into the goal. 3 - 0 at half-time.

In the second half, Club M made some changes, but the dodos never sat back to defend their advantage. Instead they kept going forward and scored two more goals early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Sandi unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty box, giving no chance to the goalkeeper, who had an extremely busy afternoon. A few minutes later, Sandi completed the rout for Club M when he beat his marker, with his dazzling pace, to slide the ball past the desperate keeper.

Hibernians was virtually an inexistent side in the second half. The dodos gave them little room to maneuver and kept pressurizing them. Alwyn had a string of good scoring chances in the last 20 minutes of the game but each time missed the target. It was just not his day. The day belonged to Sandi who was definitely the man of the match.

If the dodos keep playing the way they did against Hibernians, the championship could well be on sight.
