Club M inches closer to Title!

 

Punggol – Club M scored an impressive 4-0 victory over Four Lions on Sunday to inch closer to the title. The lions never looked as dangerous as in the first encounter against the dodos. However, it was a game marred by numerous incidents, which saw 5 players sent off and 6 yellow cards being showed. From the start, the dodos looked menacing infront of goal and the lions were under immense pressure. It was, therefore, not surprising that the dodos took an early lead after just 8 minutes of play.

After some excellent work by the midfields, Nicolas was put through from a Charles' pass and found himself with only the keeper to beat just inside the penalty box. He attempted an audacious lop and scored a sublime goal for the dodos. Club M continued the assault on the opposition's goal and the dodo's defense was doing a fantastic job to keep the lions at bay. Four Lions had no concrete scoring chances in during the entire game.

The dodos scored a second goal midway through the first half to cement their dominance in this game. The scorer was no other than Charles, who has been on target for the last couple of games for Club M. He scored from a similar position from where Nicolas scored the opening goal. However, instead of trying to lob the keeper, he blasted an unstoppable shot past the despairing lions' keeper.

From this moment onwards, the dodos were in complete control of the game. The lions were struggling to maintain possession and to crack open the dodo's defense. The first half ended with Club M leading 2-0. The dodos made a couple of changes during the interval to allow the goal-scorers to regain some energy after a breath-taking first half performance.

Club M were once again on the offensive from the start of the second half. Sandi was introduced late in the first half and was still nursing an ankle injury. Five minutes after the re-start, the forced the keeper to deflect his thundering long-range shot for a corner. This was where the match turned ugly. Before the corner was taken, Sandi was struggling to keep his marker away from him. In doing so, the 2 players went to the ground and the lion's defender sent in a punch at Sandi.

In a matter of seconds, more dodos and lions were engaged in some violent exchanges. The referee and his linesmen were unable to restore order. The dodo's captain was quick to calm his players and keep them at bay from any trouble. In the end, 2 players from both sides were sent off and the match resumed. A few minutes later, Nicolas was brought down on the edge of the penalty box by a lion's defender and the latter was red-carded as he picked his second yellow card of the evening.

With more than 25 minutes left on the clock, the dodos made their numerical advantage count towards the end as they scored 2 more goals thanks to Alwyn and Marc. The dodos are now one step closer to winning the RS League after Akashi Devils were held to a 0-0 draw against Hibernians.
