Frustration sinks the AngMo's

 

PUNGGOL - The match between Club M and Hibs was crucial as both teams needed a win to keep their hopes of winning the RS league alive. As expected, it was an extremely physical game and a close one too. The dodos did expect the AngMo's (local expression for the white westerners) to give a good fight this time around after being thrashed in the first round (5-0).

Club M had an early dominance exerting constant pressure on the opposition's goal with only the Hibs goalie keeping them in the game. The dodos were given a golden chance to open the scores after 10 minutes of play when they inherited a penalty, after Marco was fouled in the box. However, it was poorly taken by Alwyn and the keeper diving well to his right for an easy save.

The dodos continued relentlessly to push forward for the first goal of the afternoon with Ravi making his 'Ryan Giggs'-like runs on the left wing, leaving behind the helpless Hibs right-back. Everyone in Club M was focused and more than determined to shackle these f*****g Hibs.

The opposition did manage a few attempts on goal but with no avail. The dodos defence was omni present and their keeper always on guard. The break that the dodos were looking for finally came in the 20th minute of play. Ravi dribbled his way to find himself with only the keeper to beat. His left-footed shot beat the struggling keeper to find the back of the net.

The dodos went into the half-time break with great relief. The turn out for this game was very good and encouraging. Indeed, 17 players came down and their commitment paid off towards the end of the game as the Hibs were exhausted, fresh legs were introduced in the match to finish them off.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Club M's 1-0 advantage vaporised as the Hibs striker scored with a well-teken volley, just outside the penalty box, after the dodo's defence struggled to clear a corner. It was consternation and dislief for the dodos.

The team's morale, however, did not take a beating and the dodos were once again in search of their second goal, which came almost instantly after the re-start. A long clearance by Patrick Choo in midfield found our new striker, Charles, who managed to beat the offside trap and instinctively back-headed the ball over the Hibs keeper. It was exhilaration all over the Mauritian camp.

Ravi scored a thrid goal for the dodos a few minutes later to seal off the victory for Club M. Hibs had a late chance to amend the scores towards the final whistle when their striker ground-headed a cross from the right. The header was directed at the far right post and was saved by the dodos keeper.

Club M is still second in the league after a comprehensive 3-1 victory of Four Lions against Tsunami Ravens. The dodos have to maintain pressure on the league leaders to preserve their chance of winning the league!
