Club M 6-1 Young Lions I : FT Report
The Lions 'Mauled' by the Dodos
The game was delayed by about 20 minutes due to some latecomers from Club M. The opponents were getting impatient and were excitedly waiting for the game to start. They had no idea that they were going to be mauled by the ‘dodos’. Club M was on the offensive from the very beginning and the Young Lions were under intense pressure.
After 5 minutes into the game Anwar, Club M’s top marksman, opened the goal feast for the Mauritians after a good cross by Nicolas from the right flank. The ‘dodos’ were in complete control in midfield but found it somewhat hard to penetrate the young lions’ defense. The young lads were playing a defensive game and hoping to get past the mauritians by long balls from the back. But Club M’s defense was unbreakable with the dynamic duo of Dickson and Brian.
The second goal finally came in the 29th minute. Good pass by Marc on the right to Nicolas who shrugged off his marker to instinctively lay the ball back to Fardin and the latter struck home his first goal for the club. Great play by the mauritians.
The Young Lions had a good chance of getting back into the game 5 minutes later with a cross from the right flank which found a lion’s striker who looked odds-on to score and armed his shot only for a late but precise tackle by Dickson to send the ball out for a corner. This was the only scoring opportunity for the Young Lions in the first half.
The second half resumed after just 5 minutes of break. The Young Lions seemed more adventurous than in the first half and were passing the ball around with confidence. The ‘dodos’, however, were unimpressed by the revival of the opponents and added a third goal in the 49th minute. A long ball from Anwar found Nicolas in the centre, outside the penalty box, who volleyed the ball past the despairing keeper. Great goal indeed!
From then on, nothing could go wrong the Club M. The Young Lions were dejected and knew their fate was already sealed. They conceded a 4th goal 6 minutes later. Patrick collected a loose ball in the centre of the pitch and quickly passed the ball to Nicolas who sent a though ball for Anwar to chase. The latter controlled the ball in the penalty box and swiftly struck his second goal of the afternoon with an angled shot.
Our team manager, Marc, scored his first goal for Club M thirteen minutes later when he surged from nowhere to come at the end of a pass from Fardin on the right flank. He took a perfect first-time ground shot aimed at the far post, which left the keeper dazzled and he didn’t move an inch!
Club M began to loosen their grip on the game and this led to a goal by the opposition in the 73rd minute. A misguided clearance by Dickson, who sliced a long ball from a young lions’ player, sent the ball directly into the feet of an opposing attacker on the right. He instantly released his partner with a cross and the latter had time to control the ball and struck it past Thierry.
Jean-Philippe completed the rout for the dodos with a penalty kick, which was given after a late tackle by a young lions’ defender caught him from behind. It was not the greatest of penalties, but the importance was to score a goal!
The Young Lions had a chance to score a second goal near the end but thanks to a good save by the dodos’ keeper, the score-line remained at 6-1. Job well done once again!
