| Costume |
| The costume for this doll was a tough choice. I didnt know if I wanted to do a Robe Francaise, Robe Englaise, Polonaise, Empire with a long fishtale. Then I discovered a magazine and liked the small jacket. The one I chose because of teh simplicity was tehe short gown of the 1775 period.. Its a unique pattern that it's one piece and if you lay it out correctly you need only cut once around. The link on the left will take you to a version of the one. In the book is the perfected and properly scaled version. The thing about these clothes is they should be hand sewn. Which means using a combination stitch, and then buttonhole done with full 6 or 9 strand floss.. If you have never had sewn before a combination stitch is a heritage tailors stitch. You make a running of two stitches, on the last stitch you take a back stitch and begin againm, 2 running, on the second running back stitch. |
