| 2007 was a banner year for my daughter, hubby and I. We began earlier than usual outdoing each other. Hubby of course did the most fabulous baking and went up against our daughter. They competed against each other and came in first and second place.Daughter and I went against each other and again we came in first and second against each other switching places. All in all we came away with over 30 ribbons! It was wonderful and all I can say is the Jeff Fair Rocks! We then proceeded to the Knoxville Tennessee Valley fair. It was an eye opening results. My arm puppet that everyone liked came in fourth. They picked out the things that they didnt like. Like it was unlined and he was too big. The puppet that won was a premade from the 1940s that had already been to the fair on an occasion before. Here is the problem with the Knoxville fair. It clearly states in the handbook that all entries are supposed to be handmade by the exhibitor unless otherwise specified. No were in the doll category is it specified that you can bring in mass manufactured, souvenirs or other premade items. But yet the judges in those two categories continually allow that stuff to compete against handmade hand designed items. So if you consider entering be careful, you may not get what you expect. On the other fronts. It was amazing. My daughters Rogue outfit won first! And my Chinese New Year Dragon won first as well. But she beat the pants off of me in decorated egg. I was surprised to learn that I won a ribbon for my baby blanket but my tree skirt didnt come in at all. My daughter Fan knitted blanket didnt come in and that was a disappointment because it was beautiful. Hubby however entered only two items and his Blackberry juice took 2nd! All in all we did well at the fair and the disappointments of coming in fourth was crowded out by the fact that there were in many categories too many entries and it was simply hard to choose. Another bonus was that many comments were added to the backs of the claim tickets or in the judging books to let us know how to improve for the next year. It's really not about the money, though it was a nice added benefit, it's about the ribbons. And getting a brag book with all the pretty ribbons no matter which level is a way of saying you did well. Here are the pictures of the winners with their ribbons, the first composite is from the Jefferson fair! The second is going to come and that will be the results from the Knoxville Fair! Next year will be even better! |

| The Bonnet took Third at Jeff and first at Knox, the Chicken took First at Jeff and Third at Knox, the apron took Second at Jeff and nothing at Knox, The teddy bear, rollup doll and yarn doll took nothing at Knox and as you can see ribbons at Jeff. What you don't see is that the placemat took first, carved soap took first at the jefferson fair and nothing at Knox. My Wooden toy took ribbon at jeff and blue at Knox. My bracelet and wire wrapped gold ring both placed at Knox and not at Jeff. You really can't tell what will win or not win a ribbon. The only thing you can hope for is it does well and you have put your best effort into it. |
