Howdy everyone!

Well this month's issue is mostly a summary of odd new tidbits from here and there. I've been really busy traveling & dealing with the start of a new semester so no special features this time--sorry! Next month, believe it or not, will be the fourth anniversary of "On the Jazz", so I'd love to see a few submissions from list members to help celebrate. Do you have any suggestions for features to add starting in Volume 5 of the newsletter? Please let me know!

Dirk Benedict upcoming convention appearance
Contacting fX Network
Upcoming Alien Voices presentation
Dwight autograph card in new Star Trek Set
Stephen J. Cannell's On-Line Writing Seminar/New novel

DIRK BENEDICT UPCOMING CONVENTION APPEARANCE: Dirk did NOT appear at the Battlestar Galactica Reunion Convention in LA this month (though I would still like to receive a convention report or two for this newsletter from anyone here who attended). Again, I would love some convention reports from anyone planning to attend!

Dirk/Galactica fans should also make sure to check out the October (#255) issue of Starlog magazine as it features an extensive feature on the series and the stars.
CONTACTING fX NETWORK: A number of people have emailed me since fX took The A-Team off the air, wondering how to get in touch with the network. Here is the info I have, thanks to some industrious list members:

UPCOMING ALIEN VOICES PRESENTATION: From the Alien Voices homepage (www.alienvoices.com), comes the following announcement:

> Alien Voices will perform their Halloween Trilogy of "The
> Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe; "The Canterville
> Ghost" by Oscar Wilde; and "The Mark of the Beast" by
> Rudyard Kipling. It will air on the Sci-Fi Channel on
> October 25th, 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m., Central Standard Time!

As I recall this was the taping our "jazzer" Sonja happened to catch while in L.A. and it *does* feature Dwight prominently in at least one of the three pieces--so don't forget to set your vcrs!
DWIGHT AUTOGRAPH CARD IN NEW STAR TREK SET: There is a new collectible card set coming out called "Star Trek Voyager: Profiles" and one of the chase cards is a limited number of Barclay cards signed by Dwight. Twenty different actors are doing auto cards for this set, and one of those twenty is supposed to be in each box (that's box, not packet!) of cards. But I don't know how many cards in total Dwight has signed. Nevertheless, for a die-hard Dwight collector these cards ought to become very rare items indeed!

And here is some more information on Mr. Cannell's latest novel, which went on sale September 23rd:

>From Kirkus Reviews
She's a cop under a cloud; he's a country club wastrel. Together, believe it or not, they subdue a ferocious cabal of international gangsters. Not just any ferocious cabal. This is the Triad, for heaven's sake. Chinese in origin, it deals in drugs, prostitution, and general wickedness, while featuring a blend of gratuitous cruelty and untrammeled ruthlessness the Mafia can only aspire to. Wheeler Cassidy (the wastrel) discovers that his kid brother Prescott, the family's shining star, has in some way become Triad-connected--and then Triad-eliminated, when he attempts to break the connection. How to explain this? What could a rich, eminently successful young lawyer have in common with evil incarnate? To Wheeler, the LAPD appears somewhat detached in its efforts to shed light on the murkiness surrounding Prescott's death--except, that is, for Detective Tanisha Williams, who's interested, all right. Black, gorgeous, but distrusted by the brass for reasons more racial than rational, she sees the mysterious murder as an opportunity to get her career back on track. And Wheeler sees it as a chance to get his life back on track. Despite initial antipathy, the two hook up. The Triad trail leads them to Hong Kong, where events further diminish barriers of color and class. Bullets fly, colleagues die, and mutual dependency grows apace. Back in L.A., Wheeler and Tanisha net their super-villain only to find themselves faced with a nuclear bomb threat. Not to worry. By this time they"re thoroughly gone on each other, and love conquers all even nuclear bomb threats. Before this fourth novel (King Con, 1997, etc.), Cannell created TV's The Rockford Files--wry, fresh, understated, and character-driven. His fiction cries out for the same qualities.
