Craig Davidson (Head Swimming Coach) Head coach, Craig Davidson has been with Clayfield Aquatics since June
2000. He has had 20 years experience in this industry as both a national
swimmer and as an elite coach (level 2). Davidson's career began in his
hometown of Newcastle, NSW and went on to compete at a national level
as a butterfly swimmer trailing for the Olympic Games in 88, 92 &
96. In 1991 Craig accepted a scholarship to the University of Nebraska
and completed a Bachelor of Education degree. On his return to Australia,
Craig defeated numerous other potential candidates for the role as QAS/AIS
scholarship coach. Under the direction of Scott Volkers, Davidson was
a member of the coaching team that assisted Susie O'Neill in breaking
Mary T Meagher's 19-year old world record in the 200m butterfly, this
squad also consisted of talented athletes such as Samantha Riley. Craig
has a strong passion towards swimming and assisting others to reach their
personal goals. This is highly evident through his dedication and effort
he puts in with each individual athlete. Craig continues to further his
education as he is currently undergoing a Graduate Diploma in Applied
Science (Elite Sports Coaching) at the University of Queensland Lewis Hoskins (Assistant Swimming Coach) Assistant coach, Lewis Hoskins (qualified level two coach), has been
coaching at Clayfield Aquatics since January 2002. During the past 10
years Hoskins has had a high level of involvement in coaching swimming,
not only in the pool but within the Australian surf lifesaving association
as well. He has coached many talented athletes to State Championships
and some swimmers have gone on to represent their state at the National
titles. Hoskins had the privilege of coaching Ky Hurst during the year
of 2001 and also coaching the youngest iron-woman competitor in the 2000/2001
season. Originally from Victoria, Lewis now lives at Beenleigh and travels
to Clayfield Aquatics to assist with each child's swimming development.
He has a high level of dedication and passion for his role as a coach
and every child in his squad will benefit from this. Matthew Butterworth (Assistant Swimming Coach) Clayfield Aquatics has had the benefit of having assistant coach, Matthew
Butterworth, be part of this talented coaching team. Butterworth has been
coaching for the past 12 months at Clayfield Aquatics. His coaching qualities
excel not only on pool deck but also in dry land exercises as he has had
extensive experience with strength and conditioning programs. Matthew
has been involved in this sport for 10 years, as a swimmer and as a coach.
He competed at the National level in butterfly and swam in the Pan Pacific
Trials in 1999. Matthew's swimming career came to an abrupt halt due to
an aggravating shoulder injury, which prevented him from training and
consequently competing at swim meets. He is currently completing a double
degree - Business and Human Movement at the QUT. When Matthew is not coaching
or buried in a textbook he enjoys surfing at the beach and having fun.
Samantha O'Connor (Learn-to-Swim Co-ordinator) Samantha O'Connor has been involved with the learn-to-swim program at
Clayfield Aquatics since March 2002. Over this time she has assisted many
children in their swimming development - from toddlers to teenagers. Last
year she completed her university studies, graduating from a Leisure Management
degree at Griffith University - majoring in Sport Management. She has
a strong sporting background and has competed at state level in '96, '97
& '98 for athletics. She has had a number of years off the track and
now competes at a high level for touch football and is heavily involved
in Surf Life Saving. As well as Samantha's university qualifications she
is also Austwim qualified and has obtained her level one coaching requirements.
