WELCOME TO THE
CLAN PEACOCK
           WEBSITE
The Peacock name in Scotland has been recorded as Pacok, Paycock, Pecock, Peock and Paik. It was first recorded as Pacok and probably spontaneously appeared in various parts of Scotland.

The first written record of the name Peacock in Scotland is held in the British Library, London. A Roger Pacok was granted a toft of land close to the
hospital in Annan, Dumfrieshire, c.1258. This was recorded in the Register of the Priory of St.Bees. In return for the the land an annual oblation was given at the high altar of the Priory on the feast of St.Bege. The hospital in Annan continued to be recorded until 1609 unfortunately there were no further records of Peacock's in Annan but the name was recorded in other parts of Scotland.

There has never been a Clan Peacock as we were not part of the highland tradition and lived mainly in the central lowlands. There has never been any castle, house or territory which formed the centre of the family. There also has never been a branch of the family large enough to be classed as a Sept of a clan. The Bruces were Lords of Annandale at the time the record appears in the Register of the Priory of St Bees. In reality the Peacocks would have affiliated themselves to numerous clans and families.

We can however call ourselves a clan in the modern sense because we are all one family of Peacocks with Scottish roots.

The Clan Peacock exists on the internet to allow those with an interest in our surname to access and exchange information not normally available on the internet.

If you have any contributions to make I will put them on this site. I am particularly interested in extending the database of genealogical information for Peacocks in Scotland. Please contact
