King Roald was killed by a Sweating Sickness that was sent by the Scanrans and so far has hit only people connected to the Royal line, no matter how distantly. Roalds heir, Andrew, who was an idiot, was killed in battle. And Roalds second son took over. Soon after his taking over the Scanrans surrendered apperently because they were afraid of King Joren.
