Starting The Accolades The Scholar Courses Graduation Life as a Citizen Graduation Once you have completed your courses, you may graduate and truly enter the world of Avalon. Check your RECORD, see if you have the minimum requirements - if you do, and wish to graduate, return to the city school foyer and type ATTEMPT GRADUATION. If the sages are satisfied with your studies, they will grant your wish and send you on your way. Once you have graduated, you will first be approached by a divine guide, named Diomedes. Take note of his advice, as it is sound and useful. He will stress the need for exploration, patience, bravery and vision - all skills that will be put to good use as you make one of the most important decisions in Avalon - your choice of guild. Avalon has a fully developed system of guilds and professions. Each guild is run by a guildmaster and patroned by a divinity, as well as associated with a city. In addition, older and larger members help run the guild, while lower ranking members are granted privileges according to their rank. A guild is an active organization, one in which you can rise, fall, or even grow to lead someday. Membership in a guild allows you access to a variety of specialist skills, in addition to the general skills all players share. These are called the skills of your profession, and these skills give you unique abilities that other professions do not possess. Your choice of profession helps determine how your character will develop in the land. Will you be a sneaky thief, utilizing your stealth skillset to slink around, or will you be a brave knight, relying on chivalry to help you become a strong fighter? Or maybe you see yourself as a rich trader, and are considering the marketable skills of a loremaster...Whatever your choice, the guild is the avenue through which you achieve it. Making the choice of guild, however, is an important decision - you begin as an apprentice, and your membership and mastery of skills is not guaranteed until you can prove your worth. Leaving a guild before you have satisfied your elders and completed your requirements will result in a loss of any skills you have gained - not a choice to make lightly! Each profession has, in general, several guilds associated with them, one in each city. Thakria's knight profession gathers into the Cavalier's guild, while those of the mage profession join the Warlocks. Thieves and animists, for example, provide the exception, drawing members from multiple cities into one guild. It is important to learn the guilds associated with your city - the skills are the same throughout the profession, but their practice differs by realm, as guilds are strongly linked with cities, using their skills to defend and strengthen the state in which they reside. Click here for a list of Thakrian guilds. Selecting your guild can be a hard choice to make, and information is available to assist in that decision. HELP 14 will show you the index for all the professions, and HELP (profession) will tell you about the profession in general, eg HELP MAGE, while HELP (guild) will tell you about the guild, eg HELP WARLOCKS. HELP 16 will show you the index for the various skills associated with professions, eg HELP MAGERY or HELP THIEFISM. You can also dream about various professions (as well as cities and gods). Once you have chosen which guild you wish to join, simply APPLY (guild) and you will whisked to the entrance of the guildhouse. From there, just KNOCK and GREET the tutor, and they will tell you about the guild and give you the option to join. Some guilds, however, have more exclusive enrollment, and you will have to seek out the guildmaster to petition for a place in the guild, directly. HELP RECRUITMENT displays the guilds currently offering open admission. Life as a Citizen Once you have chosen a guild, you'll want to spend some time exploring the land, your city and your new skills. Type INV to start yourself off. This will show you all the items you are holding. If you have an item that can hold other things, like a sack, type EX SACK to see what is inside. Each item in Avalon has a unique number, allowing you to manipulate it, locate it from afar, and many other diverse actions. Type INFO INV. This will show you all the unique numbers of the various items you are holding. INFO INSIDE SACK will show you the numbers of the items inside your sack. One important topic for new players to learn is questing. This means doing certain actions in order (usually solving a puzzle of some sort) to earn either experience or money (sometimes both). Finding quests is easy - just look for items that appear after the description of the location and examine them, to see hints. These items will be purple, if ANSI (color) is turned on. They will show up on LOOK after the location's description, before the room's exits. You can EXAMINE an item to see if it is able to be owned or not. If an item can be owned, it's not used in a quest, but is considered equipment. An item that cannot be owned is likely a quest item - this means it can be "stolen" by cherubs, who pilfer items away after a bit of time, to return them to where you found them, so others may solve the quest. Cherubs can never steal an item that is equipment, so don't worry about protecting things from the little devils. You can also be assigned quests by CCCs, if you GREET them. Make sure you are visible, as they cannot see who is greeting them if you are concealed in any way (type VIS and REVEAL if you are hidden). Many quests produce items, which you will want to sell at the city pawn shop (Dalgar's Pawn shop is located just north off Avenue of Kings). To sell an item, simply SELL (item) and then ACCEPT. Note, if the price the shopkeeper offers you is very low, such as one or two gold, the item is probably meant to be used to get a more valuable item. A very basic quest would run something like this: Go to the location Path Entrance. Head 2 locations north. Lift the stone there. Get the necklace that is revealed! Head back to Thakria. Find the Pawn Shop. Sell the necklace. Use the proceeds to head to the tavern! You can also get quests from the CCCs (computer controlled characters) in your city - simply find one and type REQUEST. REMEMBER will show you what quest you have assigned. The rewards for these quests is experience and money, and their difficulty is based on how high you are, experience wise. If you are a Thakrian citizen, another good step to take is to register at the forums - click here. There is lots of very useful information there to assist you. Good Areas to Explore Path Entrance: This is the crossroads of Avalon. Many roads go through here, and many useful quests are situated in this area. This is one of the oldest and best known areas in the land, and it would be helpful to explore it fully. To get here from Thakria, follow the road south from the city to Southern Bank of Foul River, then go east and southeast, through the woods and the village of Eleusis. Path Entrance is just north of Mercinae. Explore the ruined city, all that remains of the original settlement in Avalon, from the era before the Divine War. Many unique items can be found here, that you can sell later in the pawn shop. If you head far north and northeast, you will come to the enclave of the river bandits. You can slay these to boost your experience and to practice fighting. Orc Town: The traditional allied village with Thakria, the orcs live in a city under the ground, far to the south of Thakria. Simply follow the road south of the city, until you reach the Wolf Gate. It opens every fifteen minutes to allow admittance to the town. Explore around, and see if you can find any quests to do. The Great Goblin, the Orc Shaman and many other leaders of this village may assign you tasks. Thakria: Wander your hometown. There are many landmarks here, from the Black Tower, to the Fugitives Rest Tavern, to our new Grand Library. Greet the many city denizens, such as the Prince, near the south gate, or the Emperor Periam, in his palace in the north of the city. If you are feeling adventurous, try exploring the Tower Labyrinth and see if you can find the resident ghost, the court jester Yabbabadon. You can also try finding the special quests in the city, and in the rest of the land, just for novices. In Thakria, try meeting Blackspawn, near the Square of the First Emperor, or greeting Helenna in the royal palace.
