The Accolades

Following the sage's guidance, you will quickly find yourself enrolled in the academy, the beginner's school where you will learn vital skills (Riding, Swordplay, Itemlore, Survival, Throwing) and useful information about the land. The purpose of this institution is to provide you with some basic training and guided exploration before you branch off into more specialised study in preparations for your later guild training.

The first thing you will wish to do in the academy is to REQUEST a task, which will alert the school's head that you wish to be bestowed a quest. He will then assign you a worthy deed to complete, which you should ACCEPT. If you forget this task at any time, simply REMEMBER to re-read your quest.

Quite quickly you will find that experienced adventures or sages will arrive to assist you in your quest. Listen to their advice and follow their instructions. If you find yourself lost at any point, or have completed your task and wish a speedy return journey, ACADEMY will whisk you home instantly. Type SUCCESS before the school master to show that you have completed the task - ADMIT FAILURE if you could not finish your quest, and wish to attempt another.

You will find yourself gaining experience and levels as you complete the accolades, as well as new skills. Experience is gained through completing quests, slaying creatures or players, certain powerful rituals, or simply spending time in the land. After gaining experience high enough, you will progress to the next level, gaining an increase of 50 in your total health and mana potentials - the higher your level, the more maximum health and mana you have. SCORE will show you how close you are to reaching a new level.

Skills are vital to your life in Avalon, and you begin to learn these useful abilities in your accolades. All players share a basic skillset, which is then broken down into various abilities. SKILLS will show your skillsets and their levels. AB (skillname), eg AB PERCEPTION, will show you all the skills in that skillset. AB (skillname) (skill), eg AB PERCEPTION TREES, will show you how to use a specific skill.

The General Skills:

Defence - protects you from weapons attacks. Higher defence means you will suffer less damage
Constitution - protects you from magical attacks. Higher constitution means you will suffer less damage
Fisticuffs - the basic brawling skillset, fisticuffs gives you an array of physical tactics
Perception - helps you interact more with your surroundings and others, through your visual senses
Swordplay - determination of how skilled you are in the art of using a sword. Higher swordplay means you will inflict more damage
Survival - basic skills useful for surviving the dangers of the wilds
Scholarship - lore and knowledge of the more academic type
Itemlore - the ability to competently analyze magical items
Riding - the ability to ride various beasts skillfully

You can type ACCOLADES at any time to review the tasks you have completed. break down of different ones

The Scholar Courses

After you complete all of your accolades, you will be directed to join the City School, a nearby establishment for higher, more specialised learning. It is here that you will begin to study the various skills you could gain in your future guild. Pay close attention to what interests you, as it will help form the basis of the decision for your future.

Once you find the school, look at each of the rooms. They each represent a different course you may enroll in - Hunter/Gatherer, Disciple, Militia, and Messenger. To become a scholar in a course, simply enter the room hosting the course you wish to join, and type ENROLL. Listen carefully to any advice you are given. HELP SCHOOLCOM and HELP COURSES are important helpfiles which will assist you in your schooling.

REMEMBER will remind you of any task you have to do - the best option is simply to explore, using maps to help guide you. RECORD will show you your current successes. CW (city who) will show you all the people from your city who are online. Anyone with (Public Relations) after their name is trained and willing to assist you.

Hunter/Gatherer:
Your goal is to explore the woods and rivers of the land. POISONS and HERBS will show you any plant growth you can harvest - ANALYZE (herb/poison name) will show you where it grows. You can IMPROVISE CUDGEL while in the woods to find yourself a sturdy weapon, which you can then WIELD in order to BASH wildlife. Don't forget to SKIN your kill afterwards. Return to your course room and type SUCCESS to hand over any finds you have collected. This course practices the forestry skills a Brigand gains, the poison knowledge of a Thief and the herbalism an Animist studies.

Messenger:
The task of a messenger is to secretively deliver coded messages to spies hidden deep in the heart of foreign cities. You must find effective travel routes across the continent. Once in a city, type SCENT SPY to learn the location of your quarry; upon finding them, give them the note, and hurry back home with the commodities they have entrusted you with. Seek out the Trade Center of your city and type SUCCESS there to deliver them. In Thakria, the Trade Center is two north from Center of Thakria Square. This course dabbles in the stealth of a Thief and the elixirs of a Loremaster.

Disciple:
A disciple is skilled in the arts of magic and music. Your quest is to travel the land, finding villages in which to use your holy spells. In each village, seek out the main square, where the villagers are congregating. To collect tithe, first BLESS BOWL and then COLLECT TITHE. To play lute, simply PLAY LUTE. To evoke light, CALL SPIRITS, then EVOKE LIGHT EXORCISM. This course gives you a peek into the magic of Warlocks, the mystical power of Seers, the music of the Bard and the powerful evocation that a Sorcerer controls.

Militia:
The duty of a soldier is to defend his or her city against intrusion from outside forces - in this case spies attempting to secret away your city's precious resources. Your job is to hunt down foreign scholars and slay them for trespassing. CHANT LOCATE and CAST (target) to ascertain their location, and WIELD your sword and JAB them with it to slay them. This course samples the charming of a Warlock and the swordplay that both Loremasters and Cavaliers rely on.

To complete a course, stand in the room that course is based in, and type COMPLETE COURSE. Every course has a minimum and maxium requirements - you must complete at least the minimum, or you will not be able to complete the course, and you cannot exceed the maximum, or you will find yourself automatically finished with the class. It is purely a matter of personal interest how little or long you spend in a course - a shorter time in schooling means that you can join a guild sooner. More in-depth time spent studying ensures that you will have a greater knowledge of the land.
