Benefits of Owning Multiple Chinchillas

Thinking About Breeding?
Chinchillas are very social animals. Whenever possible, they should be housed with at least one other same sex chinchilla. Males tend to bond easier than females. A male and female should never be housed together without the intention to breed them! Please refer to my section on Breeding for more information on this.

Benefits to owning multiple chinchillas include having happier chinchillas that get more mental and physical exercise. Keep in mind, there is also increased responsibility. Two chins means twice the amount of food, hay, and treats. It also means twice the amount of work to keep their cage clean and smell-free. If you have the time and money, the benefits far outweigh the extra effort!

Introducing chinchillas should be done gradually, and they should be kept in two seperate cages until you are certain they will get along. It is always easier if you start with two young chinchillas or an already bonded pair. Let us know if you are interested in finding a friend for your chinchilla or if you want multiple chinchillas so we can help you find the best match.

We like to encourage people to keep chinchillas in small groups. For this reason, we offer discounts if you buy a second same-sex chinchilla at the same time or in the near future. Please
