The Can-Am 40th Anniversary Celebration
Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
In the summer of 2006 Road America, the classic road course near Elkhart Lake, WI, held, as part of the BRIC vintage race, a celebration of the Can-Am series.  This was the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Can-Am and many of the great cars were expected.  Knowing that Road America's entry turnout is usually much better than Watkins Glen's, I made the decision to attend the race.

The Can-Am was basically an unlimited formula.  Even though the last of the original series ran the year I was born, the series has always held my fascination and is my favorite racing series of all time.  In its era Can-Am featured the fastest race cars in the world.  The top cars were usually faster than Formula 1 cars of the time.

I have been told that the #55 McLaren M8F seen below was hitting 210mph on the main straight.  This was an impressive machine in itself, but the massive field, (65, I believe,) of Can-Am cars was an absolute dream.  The event as a whole was simply overwhelming with the most impressive array of race cars I've ever seen.  It would have been a stunning weekend even if there had not been any Can-Am cars present.  In spite of the opressive heat it was truly a dream weekend...

I took over 700 pictures on the weekend, below is a sampling of some of my Can-Am favorites...
