Lombok

This is a special pic for Debbie Lee. Mr. Oka is a veritable fountain of information on travelling in Lombok.

We got this little piece of paradise all to ourselves in south lombok.

Check out Ian's new ride.

Lori and her new friend Lia in Lia's village where they make Batik and Ikat.

A local weaver. It takes about 1 week to finish each piece.

Lia thought her kitchen might differ slightly from a Canadian kitchen. But the food was definitely better than Canadian food.

The stove was a little different too.

Eating with the hands is just easier and more fun.

Taking the Coconut Express back to Bali.

Ubud is the artsy centre of Bali. We got this palacial room for about $6 CAD per night.

The majority of the Balinese are Hindu. Every morning and every evening they put out offerings to appease the gods. These offerings are placed in the entranceways of all homes and businesses.

Offerings placed on the pavement or floor are for the evil spirits, offerings placed above the ground are for the good spirits. Interestingly the same is offered to both good and evil spirits in order to keep both happy.

We joined a fisherman for his evening trip out to work.

We were probably bad luck cause he did not catch anything. At least we paid him for his trouble.

Every country in South East Asia seems to claim the Satay as it's own.

Irregardless of which country invented it, the Satay is undoubtedly a significant contribution to international culinary arts.

Having travelled through predominantly Muslim areas (Malayasia, Java, Lombok) it had been quite some time since Ian had enjoyed the succulence of Pork.
