Co-operative: Home Options In Childhood Education

C:HOICE homeschoolers membership

C:HOICE is a homeschoolers' support and play group in London, Ontario, open to anyone, regardless of educational method or religion, who is willing to respect the mandate and guiding principles and abide by the Members' Agreement, the Event-Planning Agreement, and the Effective Group Work guidelines.

Open membership

C:HOICE is open to any homeschooler or prospective homeschooler, regardless of educational method or religion, who is willing to respect the guiding principles and abide by the Members' Agreement, Event-Planning Agreement and Effective Group Work guidelines.

Homeschooling itself remains the private affair of each family, but the gathering of families is a group venture. Running a homeschooling network as a consensus-based co-op means that decisions concerning group activities are made as a group rather than by independent organizers.

Associate Members

Associate Members are those who believe in the group's approach but choose not to be involved in decision-making about the group's policies and services. They may, on the other hand, be involved in the group decision-making about events and activities -- either by initiating an idea, participating in event-planning discussion, or volunteering for tasks.

Full members

Like Associate Members, Full Members may choose to participate in planning events in the ways described above. In addition, they are involved in group decision-making about policies and services.

Full Members also fill the administrative roles: website manager, treasurer, contact person, etc.

Joining C:HOICE

You are warmly invited to join as either a Full Member or an Associate Member if you agree with C:HOICE's mandate and guiding principles and are willing to abide by the Members' Agreement, the Event-Planning Agreement and the guidelines for Effective Group Work for consensus decision-making and non-adversarial problem-solving.

To join C:HOICE, join the c-hoice yahoogroup. Through it you can initiate planning for meetings and activities, stay in the loop and have a say about any planning initiated by other members, have the opportunity to help plan all activities, and receive announcements. The e-list also serves as an ongoing line of communication for support. It's important that members feel comfortable with the style of group they're in, so when you sign up to join, please let us know that you've explored the membership pages, understand how the group operates, and are happy to support our consensus-based ways.
