What's new at C:HOICE

The Homeschoolers' Playgroup

The C:HOICE playgroup is now open to non-members under the name Homeschoolers' Playgroup. The timeslot has also changed, from the afternoon to the morning -- starting at 10am on Tuesdays. We'll meet at the Children's Museum until the weather is more stable, at which point we'll switch to the outdoors -- probably Thames Park.

Determining consensus

We're attempting to fine-tune the process of how decisions are made. Decision-making by consensus has always been an integral part of C:HOICE, and remains a cornerstone of its foundation. In order to determine that consensus has been reached on a particular decision, we've depended, in the past, on an explicit response from each Full Member. This works well when all Members respond in a timely manner, but puts limits on what can be accomplished when responses are not given. In recognition of this reality, we're adjusting the policy concerning the process of determining consensus. Our new agreement is as follows (the paragraph below replaces the first sentence of Event-Planning Agreement item #3 - the rest of item #3 remains unchanged):

"In determining whether consensus has been reached, we agree to assume consent from Members if they have not voiced disagreement within the timeframe. By the same token, we agree to allow our own consent to be assumed if we have not voiced our perspective within that timeframe. When the timeframe is not explicitly stated, we agree to allow up to 3 days for responses to be initiated. We will each take responsibility for keeping up-to-date with the consultation process by checking in by phone or email on a sufficiently frequent basis."
