Hans and Alexandrine Clement
John
Jean Hans was b. Feb. 15, 1803 in St. Martinville, La. v7#165, bapt
Oct 18, 1807 v.6a p28, spons Michel Martin & Suzanne Hargrave; m.
Alexandrine Clement on Sep. 16, 1844 Laf. Ct. Hse #742. in St. Martinville,
LA. They lived in Vermillion Parish in 1850 and moved to Acadia
Parish. John Hans died between 1859-1860. Alexandrine was
m. 3 times John Hanks, Paul Breaux, Paul Dupreville Prejean ,
lived to be 106 and had over 100 grandchildren. Alexandrine' parents
were Louis Clement and Marianne Stelly.
(Note: My father said they were always told that John Hans came from
Germany. The only source I have to back this up is 1850 Census. Which
says John was a cobbler from Germany. 1850 census says John was 35 years
old which would have made him born abt 1815. Also what I find strange
is that John Hans b. 1803 did not marry Alexandrine Clement until 1844
which would have made him 41 at the time. That is a little old for a
first marriage in 1844. In 1850 census also John Hans brother were listed
as Hanks. Why the different spelling for John?? Would really like to
get to the bottom of this.)
