A. Churetta
John A. Churetta, 78 of 202 S. 2nd Street Hokendauqua died yesterday
in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Czechoslovakia, he was a son
of the late John and Mary (Balok) Churetta. He was a member of
St. Andrew's Slovak Catholic Church, North Catasauqua. He was
employed as a blaster at quarries throughout the Leghigh Valley and
his last position was at the Dragon Cement Co., Northampton where he
was a maintenance man.
Surviving are his wodow Barbara; a son, Stephen of Laurel Springs, N.J.
seven daughters, Mrs. Anna Jackson at home; Irene, wife of Kenneth Wasser,
Northampton, Helen, wife of Herman Solderich, and Barbara, wife of Daniel
D'Amico, both of Bethlehem; Margaret wife of Russell Keller, North Catasauqua;
Elizabeth, wife of Alvin Arnold, Newburgh, NY., and Dorthea, wife of
James Mark, Bethlehem; 32 grandchildren and 25 great grand children.
Services directed by the Thomas A. Burkholder Funeral Home, 3rd and
Walnut Streets Catasauqua, will be in the Churetta home at 8:30 a.m.
Monday. Requiem High Mass will be at 9 a.m. in the St. Andrew's
Slovak Catholic Church, North Catasauqua. Calling hours at the
Churetta home will be tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mrs.
Barbara Churetta
Mrs. Barbara A. (Chabak) Churetta 90 of 3202 S. 2nd St. Whitehall died
Sunday in her home. She was the widow of John A. Churetta.
Born in Czechoslovakia. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. George Chabak. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic
Church, North Catasauqua. Surviving are seven daughters.
Mrs. Anna Jackson at home, Irene wife of Kenneth Wasser and Elizabeth
wife of Alvin Arnold both of Whitehall, Margaret, wife of Russell Keller
and Dorthea wife of James Mark both of North Catasauqua. Helen,
wife of Karl Schmidt of Northampton and Barbara wife of Daniel D'Amico
of Bethlehem. 33 grandchildren 66 great grand children and four
great great grand children.
Services at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in John H. Brubaker Funeral Home 3rd
and Walnut Streets Catasauqua. Will be followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9 in the church. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs.
Mary Cherhita, nee Balog
Mrs. Mary Cherhita, nee Balog, died at ther home, 1532 Newport avenue,
rear, Northampton, on Easter Sunday. She had been bedfast two
years. There survive three sons, John of Northampton, with whom
she made her home, Joe, of Northampton, and Mike of Lansford.
Funeral services will be held from her late home Wednesday morning at
8:45 followed by High mass sung in the Slovak Catholic church.
Interment will be made at St. Andre's cemetery, Catasauqua.
Note:
Error on Mary Maria Balog's tombstone. According
to Mary Balog birthdate on her tombstone she was only 5 years old when
Joseph Cerhita is born. Her correct birthdate according to what I found
in the Church Records is that she was born January 29, 1852.
She was married in 1872 on January 15

A. Cherit
Michael A. Cherit, 85 of Saylorsburg, formerly of Lehighton, died July
9 in Palmerton Hospital. He was married to Doris V. (Fairchild)
Bartholomew Cherit for four years last month.
He was a sewing machine mechanic for ADT Mills, Cherryville, before
retiring. Previously, he was a sewing machine mechanic for Scotty's
Mill, Lehighton, and a coal miner for Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co.,
Lansford, for eight years.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Souchak)
Cherit.
He was a member of St. Peter and paul Catholic Church, Lehighton.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in Europe,
and a member of Veterans of Foreigh Wars, Summit Hill.
Survivors: Wife; stepsons, Robert Bartholomew of Kresgeville,
Thomas Bartholomew of Saylorsburg; stepdaughter, Bonnie K. Hardenstine
of Reeders: twin sister Elizabeth Gona of Rockville, N.J.; sister Margaret
Hypek of Long Island, N.Y.; 10 stepgrandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a stepson, Dennis.
Services: Mass, 10 a.m. Saturday in the church. Military
committal service, 10:45 a.m. Saturday, St. peter and paul Catholic

Churetta Sr.
Joseph Churetta Sr. of 2116 Dewey Avenue Northampton Pa retired employee
of Bethlehem ??? died at 9:30 a.m. yesterday in the Sacred Heart Hospital
Alllentown. He was 82.
He was born in Austria a son of the late John and mary Balog Churetta.
He came to the United States 60 years ago. He retired 10 years
ago.
He held membership in the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
Northampton and the Northampton lodge of Woodmen of the World and the
Jednota.
His wife Elizabeth Sopko Churetta predeceased him.
His is survived by three sons Michael, Coplay R. 11; Andrew, Fullerton,
and Joseph Jr. with whom he resided two daughters Mrs. Anna Tretnak,
Cherryville and Mrs. Mary Micklos, Catasauqua. He is also survived
by 14 grandchildre, 26 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Michael,
Lehighton, and John Hokendauqua.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119
Washington Ave. Northampton, followed by a solemn requiem mass at 9
a.m. in the Blessed Virgin Mary read at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in
the funeral home.

Joseph Churetta
Mrs. Elizabeth Supko Churetta wife of Joseph Churetta died Sunday afternoon
at her home 2246 Slegfired Aven. northampton. She had been ill
since June.
A daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Supko, Mrs. Churetta came
to Northampton from her native Czechoslovakia in 1904. She was
a member of Blessed Virgin Slovak Roman Catholic Church and of Grove
250 of the Workmen's Circle both of Northampton.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Anna Tretiak of Cherryville
and Mary wife of Andrew Micklos of Catasauqua three sons, Michael of
Cementon Andrew of Fullerton and Joseph Jr. of Norhtampton, 13 grandchildren
and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a. m. Thursday at her home, with requiem mass
at 10 a.m. in Blessed Virgin Church.

Anna B. Jackson, 86 formerly of Catasauqua and Hokendauqua, died on
Monday Sept. 6 in Gracedale. She was the wodow of Albert Jackson.
Born in Norhtampton she was a daughter of the late John and Barbar Chabak
Churetta. Anna has been retired for more than 30 years.
She worked as a sewer for the former Schneider Manufacturing Co., Allentown.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, North Catasauqua,
where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
Survivors: Sons Robert Solderich of Northampton, and Albert Jackson
of palmerton; daughters, mary Ann Bechtold of Orlando, Fla. and Theresa
Holderman of Northampton; sisters, Irene Wasser of Whitehall, helen
Solderich of Bethlehem, Barbara D'Amico of Easton, Elizabeth Arnold
of Orlando and Dorothy Mark of Catasauqua; she had 18 grandchildren,
33 greatgrandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her daughter, Iren Brunner Miller.
