Clients' Perspective
For Our Designers - Wee Leng's Proposal [enter]
Our group ‘Chillipadi’ has 5 proposals from its 5 members. Choosing a good assignment for out designer is a very difficult task. Basically, we need to choose something that is very challenging, meaningful, and sophisticated technology, good design, and a reasonable challenge for implementation. Among 5 of the proposals, they are from different subject, such as virtual communities for certified accountants-to-be, music enthusiast, for sponsoring a child, for movie fans, and for food fanatic community. After a long deliberation, based on the technology, aim of the community, social issues, and the design and plan and community research tools, sponsoring a child is outlined as a popular concept. The proposal selected for the implementation is sponsoring a child proposed by Wee Leng.

This topic basically is concern about the poor children that need support from us. Subject area for this proposal is meaningful, interesting and merciful. In this proposal, it clearly identified all the functions and technologies needed, the information of how the virtual communities would look like, and well defined the community prototype. In certain part of the proposal it is quite confusing due to too many functions suggested in the proposals, such as the credit card functions. It requires a cost to implement this function. Reason to select this proposal to the designer is because it is challenging enough, and all the requirements of the functions is very clear, and easy to understand, and to do good things to the society.

Topic: Virtual Communities for Certified Accountants To Be

This topic is basically dealing with the fresh accounting graduate student with the ambiguity of their future to be a certified accountant. They are either Chartered Accountant, or Certified Public Accountant. The area of this proposal is professional and is knowledgeable. It has few functions and technologies that are proposed in this proposal, which is described in details, and most of the functions are free to get it. This topic needs a high degree of accounting knowledge, which is quite difficult for the client to understand the whole process of the accounting requirement and background. The reason that is not selected is because the designer group need to familiar with the accounting issues, background and a certain level of knowledge in order to fully understand the proposal.

Pianoforte is an online community created for the music enthusiast to share their experiences, interest and passion for music regardless their age, experience, nationality and also cater players of all kind of instrument. The area of this proposal is easy to understand. There is a bunch of functions suggested in this proposal which is easy to understand and easy to implement. The reason of not selecting is because the functions are not describe in details, and living a lot of ambiguity.

Hoyts is franchise of cinema in Australia and it has many cinemas in every places of Australia. Movie is a form entertainment that enacts a story by a sequence of images giving the illusion of continuous moments. The subject area is good where it might attract many fans to visit this web page, especially the youngsters and young adult. Aims and rules in this proposal are clearly defined. It has a variety of functions that allow fans to communicate to each other. The reason of not choosing this proposal is because it is too general, and student from last few semesters has proposed it.

Topic: Food Fanatic Community

Food fanatic community is a place to gather the entire food lover to share their experience and share recipe around the world regardless the type of foods. This is a very good proposal, which is clearly identified each function, and the way to implement it. This area is common, and is able to attract all different level of people. It is using intranet to start up the community, which is required some cost, and certain level of knowledge to implement it, and slightly advance for designer. And this would be the reason of not choosing this proposal.
Evaluation of the Implementation
Our designer group, Hastalavista proposed the first implementation of using FriendsCircle on 14 October which most of the functions is already programmed in it. On the 19th October, Hastalavista submitted another implementation by using MSN Groups, web page, and Compassion web page.
We are very grateful to have Hastalavista as our designer. They did a very good job, and is very impressing us. They done what we have expected, and make the virtual community more lively, and look so real. Furthermore, it named our community as a ‘Guardian Angels’, which is suitable for the topic.
Context
In the context form, the web page is well designed, and use a peace and wonderful color which is light and calm color to suit this topic, furthermore, the picture in the web page is suitable and nice such as the small little angel. Which able to shows the feeling of warm and welcome, and able to bring the feeling of caring. The layout of this web page is considered not too bad. The things that need to be emphasis is that the page sometimes quite confusing, and at the home page of the Guardian Angels, the links are not function. It is better not to show those links on the home page.
Content
The content in this virtual community is relevant, and is informative. It is stated clearly what the community about, their missions and their aim, their commitments and FAQ. But, it is a bit too religious. Which it might mislead to other religion or people that are interested in sponsoring a child, but is not a Christian, or other religion. Lesser issue on Christian will make the page more perfect, and welcome from more people around the world without any religion boundary. And it may able to reduce the conflict for each religion. Neutral will be the best.
Community
In this community, there are some functions able to communicate between the users. They are such as message boards, chat rooms and documents. During the discussion with the designer, we already agreed that the video conferencing is by using e-mail. The point that I would like to mention here is that there is a 2 different chat rooms in this community, which is one for the public, and the other one is for the private chat. It is quite confusing for the users. Furthermore, there is a classification for each discussion board that is also might confuse the users as well. Discussion board consist of few different boards such as general board, feedback, sponsor a child board and others. It is good to classify each board, but not till confusing the users, and difficult for the users to post messages on board.
In conclusion, Hastalavista gave us an excellent job. This is worth to mention, they able to implement all the functions that is stated in the proposal, furthermore, they are also able to do more than what we want, and is relevant to the community, such as radio broadcast. Other than the credit card function, they had fulfilled the entire requirement. While the credit card function is linked to the Compassion web site. Overall, well done, Hastalavista.
