About Me

Hit Counter betta people have been here since the site spawned on 12/11/01 !

Updates:
23/11/01 New spawn this morning! Medium-large spawn of around 100 or so eggs, from my Salamander MG x Salamander MG. Both have a purple sheen to them, so I'm hoping hard! Updated section on Upcoming Spawns.

Updated page on "The Breeding", and added a pic of a sea almond leaf.

19/11/01 Added a page 2 to my "Upcoming Spawns" section! Plus more new pics of my purple mustard gases .. I also added some pics of my fry on page 1, hope you guys enjoy them!
18/11/01 Excellent! My Purple MGs have finally spawned! =) Hopefully the babies will be safe from harm until Daddy has been removed. Very small spawn, probably less than 30 eggs.

Updated page on selecting stock for breeding bettas.

17/11/01 Updated links, and also food articles. Added links in local and other pages, amended a couple of mistakes in dihybrid inheritance (thanks, Trevor and Deborah!).

It's been rather rainy  today, and all but the DTM pairing had loads of progress today! Unfortunately the DTM has been beaten up real bad by Le Femme "Sapphire", so I'm going to remove him later. Now the both of them are looking absolutely ridiculous, lying side by side amongst some java moss and refusing to spawn!!

16/11/01 Updated page on Dihybrid Inheritance, Living Conditions and Others Gallery (Thanks, Cindy!) Hope you all enjoy reading, and do let me know if there are any other mistakes, yah? Thanks!!

The 3 pairs are doing fine, but only the purple MG pairing is having any progress. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. =)

14/11/01 Sigh .. I apologise for not updating the other sections of the site, especially the genetics section. So all those who have emailed me regarding this section, please be patient. I'm amidst a very busy schedule for these 2 weeks, but after the 28th this month I promise I'll get it done.
12/11/01 3 more pairs going into the spawning tanks:
  1. Purple Mustard Gas STM x MG Salamander STF
  2. Melano STM x Steel blue STF (melano geno, HM geno)
  3. Turquoise DTM x Royal Blue STF "Sapphire" - I just can't get enough of this great pair so I decided to spawn them again. =)

As is my custom, I do not list spawns under the "Upcoming Spawns" section until they have spawned successfully - based on previous experience whenever I place them in that section while they are still spawning they will fail to spawn somehow. Call me superstitious if you like, but I'm not going to risk it! =)

Welcome!

Here is where I try to share information, pictures and also try to increase awareness of betta-keeping in Singapore.

Until fairly recently, Singapore's bettas consisted of only plakats (short tail, wild-type) and veiltails. Only a few admirable people had access to any decent stock at all. Fortunately, betta-breeding has been going on at a great pace here, and it is heart-warming to see that many respectable breeders here now have extremely good stock. Hence, instead of importing bettas from overseas breeders (Well, I used to do that, and occasionally do still, now), it's quite possible to obtain excellent fish from local breeders. To those that have contributed to our progress so far, I give you my utmost respect!

P.S. Just in case you're wondering what the initials "BD" are doing on the logo on the top left hand corner of these pages - well, I edited this graphic sometime last year while contemplating setting up a webpage. It had a different name of course. Well .. until I have more time on hand to do more graphics editing! =)
