The organization began work in November 2000 by establishing a Children�s Rehabilitation Center. The Social Fund �Children of Tien-Shan� was established and registered by the Issyk-Kul Regional Department of Kyrgyz Ministry of Justice on the 18th of May 2001. |

The reason for establishing the organization was the presence of hungry and neglected children in the streets of Balykchy. Concerned individuals began to think of how to help these children. The idea was concieved of establishing a Children�s Center where children could find food, shelter and safety. The first children arrived at the Center in December 2000. Since then, the �Children of Tien-Shan� has helped over 200 children who were in crisis, as well as providing support of various kinds to their families. |

With the help of various funders, the organization has grown and now has a Children�s Crisis Center and a Resource Center (where the Rehabilitation Center used to be). Also, the staff's knowledge has grown and they have become recognized as leaders in the development of the foster care model in the Kyrgyz Republic as well as in the knowledge of how to help families and children who are in crisis. |
