Who is Jessica?
Beautiful pictures of animals in need of a home!
Hi! I would like to tell you a little about myself. My name is Jessica , I'm 29 years old, and my experience working with children goes as far back as my teenage years. I have been a nanny, caring for young children as well as school age children. I  also have worked with developmentally delayed children and adolescents in a residential treatment center. Most importantly, I love children! I love seeing them grow, learn, and experience life. On a more personal note...

My two years of college were spent with an emphasis on psychology. I am taking early childhood education and care courses so that I can obtain my Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. I am certified in pediatric CPR and first aid.

Autism is a big interest of mine. When I worked with children with autism it was using applied behavior analysis: breaking down tasks into small steps while guiding the person as needed and "rewarding" them for each attempt. This also entailed careful documentation of self-injurous or aggressive behavior to determine the cause of the behaviors.

I feel parents with a child who is autistic should research and try out any methods they think will help. Applied behavior analysis is one of the best tools out there, but it is not the only one. There are visual, auditory, dietary (casein free/wheat free), drug, and speech therapies which can bring success too.
