Parent Handbook
I would like to welcome you to Happy Days Home Daycare! I offer loving, safe, and fun child care, a home away from home. Children will be guided through each developmental stage to reach their unlimited potential. I provide lots of toys, books, music, activities, respect and patience. This handbook is intended to outline the service I provide and the policies and procedures under which I operate.

LOCATION

East Orlando.

HOURS AND DAYS OF OPERATION

Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional extended hours are available. Hours will be prearranged as needed.

STAFF TO CHILD RATIO
1:4

FEES

Full Time - $115 a week.
Part Time - $30 a day.

Due to the limited spaces available, weekly payments are based on using or holding your slot, not on the child's attendance. No refunds are given for late arrivals/early departures, parental vacations or exclusion due to illness. The exception is the one unpaid week a year that I allow each parent. Any vacation time that I take will be unpaid.

Overtime Fees, for any time that is not prearranged, will be $5.00 per 15-minute increment.
Overtime that is prearranged (with a 24-hour notice) will be $5 an hour, subject to my availability.

Weekly fees are due in advance on Friday; this includes part timers..

Late Payment Fee: $5.00 per day that payment is not received. If fee isn't paid by Monday morning of the next week, your child will not be cared for until the outstanding balance is paid. Continued late payments will result in termination of our contract.

Returned Check Fee: $20.00 plus the $5.00 per day late fee. After the first bounced check, cash will be required
.

DEPOSIT

Before care will start, a deposit in the amount of one half of your weekly fee must be paid (including part time ). This will be applied towards your child's last week of care. When your last week arrives, the remainder of your fee will be due as usual (on the Friday before
).

FIRST DAY - PLEASE BRING

1) Two complete changes of clothes to be left here with name labeled inside each item.
2) Bag of diapers, wipes, and labeled formula (if applicable).
3) Medication that you may want your child to have (tylenol, orajel), label with child's name.
4) Sunscreen and bug repellent.
5) Toothbrush, labeled with child's name.

PRIOR TO FIRST DAY
I must have in my possession the completed consent to receive medical treatment form, medicine form, form to go on field trips off of the premises (including walks), and immunization form. If you are divorced I need a copy of the custodial agreement. I also must have your signed contract, deposit and first week
s fee.

TRIAL PERIOD AND TERMINATION

I accept children into my daycare home on a 2-week (10 day) trial period. If at the end of the trial period I feel the need to terminate this contract, I may do so without a 2-week notice. You may also do so at this time, but it must be on or before the tenth day.

After the tenth day, a 2-week notice must be given. I will also give two weeks notice if the child is to be terminated from care. Should you remove your child before the two weeks end, you must pay me in full for those two weeks. Any abuse or violation of the rules/policies of the contract/handbook may be just cause for termination. Immediate termination can occur for behavior problems, or dangerous situations.

MEALS

Parents must provide formula/breast milk and baby food, until the child is eating table food. Any food that I supply is vegetarian. Parents are welcome to pack a lunch for their child if they prefer.

DIAPER CHANGES

Diapers will be checked and changed every 1 1/2 - 2 hours or more frequently if required. Also, each child will be diapered after waking up from its
nap. Parents will supply the diapers, wipes, and ointment. I supply the gloves and changing paper used in the diapering process. I also supply  (if baby uses them) baby gates, bouncy chair, highchair, baby swing, walker, and baby toys.

HYGIENE

Hand washing will be done before and after meals, after the child goes to the bathroom, and after diapers are changed. Paper towels will be used for drying hands.  Teeth will be brushed after meals. My house is cleaned daily: I wipe the counters and table with bleach water before food is distributed, and I bleach the bathrooms daily. The toys will be washed weekly, as well as the children's sheets, or more often if soiled. The cat's litter boxes, food and water will all be kept out of reach. All pets have updated
shots.

HEALTH MATTERS

Only children with mild cold like symptoms (clear runny nose, slight cough, and no fever) will be permitted to stay. Health Department regulations will not allow children to attend daycare if they exhibit symptoms such as:  Rash, fever (100 F. or higher), excessive cold and/or cough, vomiting, diarrhea, lice or nits, discharge form eyes or ears, unusual drowsiness, persistent or excessive crying, or communicable diseases (chicken pox, roseola, conjunctivitis, mumps, measles, influenza).

If they become ill during daycare hours, parents will be contacted immediately to remove their child within 1 hour of being notified. If parents are not available, the emergency contact person will then be notified. Once the child is removed from daycare due to illness, they may not return for a full 24-hour period and must be symptom-free, or be accompanied by a doctor's note. This sickness policy applies to myself as well, and you will be notified as early as possible if I become ill.

Medication:  Prior to administration of non-prescription or prescription medication, a slip must be filled out and signed by the parent. All medications, sunscreens, bug repellent, diaper lotion, etc., must be in the original container and be correctly labeled with child's name. Non-prescription items must be labeled with your child's name and the dosage clearly marked.

ANIMALS

We have an elderly dog, Allie, who is 16 years old. She's a black lab, loves to please and is great with kids. She spends most of the day sleeping! We also have eight cats that play outside during the day, however they like to come in and cool off periodically. Although this sounds like a lot, we keep a clean house, and children love our cats! All animals have their shots, are registered, and are spayed or neu
tered.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

If someone other than the parent or written designated person will be picking up your child, I will need a face to face notice ahead of time by the parent or a phone call made by the parent (not the person picking up the child). If I haven't met the person they will need to show some form of ID.

BACK - UP CARE

I will try to have a trusted substitute care for the children in emergencies or if I am ill, but you must have a back-up caregiver who will care for your child on a short n
otice.

DISCIPLINE

I use positive discipline techniques. Physical and emotional punishments will not be used. Age appropriate redirection, a thinking chair, or a loss of privileges will most likely be
used.

EMERGENCY PLANS

We will practice monthly fire drills, as well as teach safety issues to the best of the children's understanding.

DISCRIMINATION

I will not discriminate against any child on the basis of sex, creed, religion, or nationality. *ALL children must be properly immunized in order to be accepted into my home, no exceptions.

NAP/REST
TIME
I provide portable cribs, playpens, mats and blankets for naps. All children will have a rest period. No child will be forced to sleep, but they must observe quiet time.

ACTIVITIES

Age appropriate activities will be scheduled with flexibility allowed for responding to the children's needs. Preschool learning will take place with stories, circle time, singing, abc's, crafts, shape recognition, matching, manners and more. I provide toys, materials for learning and arts and crafts. Outside play, walks and free play will also be a part of th
e day.

TV VIEWING

TV viewing will be very minimal, limited daily to a half hour appropriate program or one
video.

VACATIONS & HOLIDAYS

Daycare may be closed 2-3 weeks per year for unpaid vacation or holiday. Notification of at least 4 weeks will be given prior to any closed days, with the exception of emergencies or illness. In the event that I will be away for a period of less than two hours, my fiance, Carlo, will provide substitute care. Parents are responsible for finding back-up care during provider absences.

These are the holidays for 2001 that I will be taking off:  Friday night March 23 (fiances' birthday),  Memorial Day (May 28),  4th of July, Labor Day (Sept. 3), Thanksgiving (Nov. 22 & 23), Christmas eve and day (Dec. 24th & 25th) New Years Day, Jan. 1, 2002.

Thank you for bearing through all of the necessary formalities. If there is anything that you don't understand, or if you would like to discuss anything with me then please email m
