"Working Towards New Directions" First Annual Provincial Child and Youth Care Conference. June 25-27, 2003
The First Annual Provincial Child and Youth Care Conference was recently held in Moncton. Approximately 80 people attended, including Child and Youth Workers, Social Workers, Mental Health Workers, Educators, Foster Parents, and Students. Participants came from around the province as well as PEI, Newfoundland, Quebec, and Ontario. There were many highlights of the conference, including Dr. William Morrison's opening keynote address on competency-based approaches; the film screening of Cul de Sac: The Final Exit, which was also attended by approximately 25 of Moncton's street youth; and Dennis McDermott's inspirational closing keynote address on the future of Child and Youth Care. Workshops were presented on such topics as dealing with grief, working with GLB youth, adventure-based counseling, working with children diagnosed with FAS/E, independent living, family programs, and developmental assets.
