In keeping
with the most stringing quality standards, Mazda developed a new painting method dubbed the "Hi-Reflex" system for
the Millenia. The car was rotated as it was painted and dried with
several layers. This virtually eliminated the "orange peel"
traditionally found on the vertical surfaces of cars while producing a
highly
durable paint surface. This unique process
also led
to amazing depth and clarity in the paint - almost as if you could dip
your finger into it!
Thorough wind
testing and computer modeling were performed in order to achieve the amazingly low
0.29 coefficient of aerodynamic drag (same as Mazda's RX-7). This
result was exemplary in 1994
when the car was introduced, and it still is today. Most
sedans have a coefficient of drag around 0.32. This helps the Millenia
slice through the air and maintain stability at higher speeds while
achieving up to 28 mpg on the freeway.
