The Millenia was conceived as the entry model in Mazda's stillborn "Amati"
luxury nameplate. "Amati" was meant to be Mazda's answer
to Nissan's Infiniti, Toyota's Lexus, and Honda's Acura brands.
Reportedly in the works
was also a V-12 flagship model. Unfortunately, because of financial concerns, the plans for "Amati"
were never fully realized. However, the Millenia was near
completion, so Mazda decided to market the car in the States as a Mazda. Because of it's world class
roots, the quality of the Millenia matches or exceeds those of
its competitors, with stringent standards that allow only up to 3mm gaps
between the body panels. The Millenia was manufactured in Mazda's
newest, most advanced automobile factory in Hofu City, Japan This
factory was designed and built for the careful attention to detail
needed to assemble luxury automobiles.
In Japan and Australia, the car is known as the Eunos
800. In Europe - the Xedos 9. The Eunos 800 had some cool
options that we will never see. Four-Wheel steering, infrared security
system, and the solar panel roof are just a few examples that I am aware of.
The later models even have a GPS navigation system. However, even
with all these exceptional features, the most revolutionary innovation was Mazda's accomplishment in
producing the Miller-Cycle engine for high-speed automotive use.
