Shallow Hal Starring Jack Black as 'Hal' and Gwyneth Paltrow as 300pound 'Rosemary' equivalent of about 35 stone. hehe.
Jack Black is an up comming star, his performances in such films as 'High Fidelity' and The 'Jackel' have opened many doors for Jack, his way of acting is a talent and is new and inventive. As he presented this years MTV Movie awards along with 'Buffy' AKA Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Shallow Hal, not really a movie blockbuster, but fair play it was good. The Farrelly Brothers Directing it, Hal is a man obsesed with apperance and looks, quite self absorbed. A self help guru gives him the power to see deep inside people and he now only see's 'inner beauty' and as we all know, most ugly people are really nice, and nice girls are just plain stuck up! no offence to any 'lookers' out there. Hal promtly falls for Rosemary a 300 pound monster in the eyes of the public, yet a beauty queen through Hals eyes. Well, as we see Rosemary (a beach whale) its actually Gwyneth, but in a prospetic full body suit, cleverly done, yet after the first few jokes it grows old fast. People are looking for something different. Not all the same over and over. What seems at first, a fat gagged joke dstory line, soon turns into full on Romance.!! There are many tender scenes between Rosemary and HalL, which work well, and give a passionate effect. The film is crammed with sweet likeable folk, and its a sad truth that nice guys are just never as funny as out - and - out bastards...
A little less nice and a bit more nasty would of made this film twice as good. Lacking in comedy. |
