The Germanic name: Uuinne (Wunjo)
The Norse name: Vend
The Anglo Saxon name: Wynn
The Norwegian name: Wynn
Wunjo means joy, that elusive state of
harmony that sometimes exists in the
chaotic world. This rune deals with the
wights, the spirits in all things. For
instance, every tree has a wight or a
spirit that resides within it. Wunjo
is the midpoint between opposites,
where alienation and anxiety disappear.
It is the rune of fellowship, comradery,
shared aims, and general well being.
With Wunjo, joy can be found by coming
into balance. One example is the weather
vane, which moves in harmony with the
prevailing currents of air. This is akin
to the joy found in the ecstatic shamanic
state of bliss, that place where the
spirit can journey and experience pleasure
and peace outside the body. The W rune
represents the energetic harmony of two
people who make honor and integrity their
first consideration. In this way, the
individual can best maintain his/her
freedom.
Frey He was the sunshine, and as
such his day of power was the winter
solstice, when the sun begins to
grow brighter and the days longer.
Wodan Another name for Odin, it is
he who ruled the light half of the
year, from the winter solstice to
the summer solstice.
Uller God of winter, archery, and
the hunt, he ruled the dark half of
the year, from the summer solstice
to the winter solstice. His weapon
was a longbow made of yew, the best
wood for a bow, and he lived in a yew
grove in Asgard. He was the son of Sif
and the stepson to Thor.

Wunjo is referred to as the
"Golden Age." One of Odin's two
hundred other names was Oski,
"fulfiller of wishes." Contained
in this title was the name Wuldor,
who is Uller, stepson of Thor.
Also from Wunjo comes the
concept of the glory twigs,
symbols connected with acts
of magic and the realization
of true will. Glory twigs in
Anglo Saxon are named "Wuldortanas."
Twigs from trees are still used
for runic divination.

The depiction is akin to the
weather vane on old barns,
showing which way the wind
blows. "Wend" also means to
change the direction of something,
to turn and run with or against
the wind. Wendrunes are runes
written backwards. Because of
its ability "to turn things around"
or to change situations to your
advantage, Wunjo is the ideal rune
to turn the tide and ensure victory.
The W rune stands for the mystery
of the harmonious existence of varied,
but complementary energies. It binds
different energetic fields together,
and is therefore an invaluable rune
in magic. Also, because it is
connected to wishes, it is one of
the most magically charged runes.
In the Thurisaz rune, this power
is no more than a potentiality,
while in Wunjo it becomes fully
realized. When used correctly,
Wunjo puts you in touch with great
power, and helps you to actualize
your goals and aspirations.
Wunjo brings good fortune, joy,
and reward. Because of this it is
perceived as the happiness rune.
It also symbolizes Oneness,
including both the divine and
material worlds.
The Rune of Joy and Pleasure a
very positive sign indicates that
things are finally going your way
and powerful forces will soon enter
your life. In reversal it means the
opposite.
Wunjo is the last rune of the first
aett representing the end of one cycle
and preparations for the next one. This
is an exceptionally positive stable rune.
Christians connect it with the Sky although
it really corresponds better to the preChristian
Nordic Valhalla which means Paradise, however
only in a limited rather than lasting sense.
Same as in case of the wealth denoted by
Fehu the glory spoken of by Wunjo is just
illusion. Achieved has been success on one
level only with many lessons remaining to
be learned. This however is a good place
to stop for a moment and rest which is
supposed to secure strength to us
necessary for further advancement. Wunjo
also opens perspectives for us offering a
new view and insight into the path we have
taken. It opens brilliant new possibilities
for us but if we let ourselves believe that
we can reach and accomplish such in a fast
manner and without strain they will disappear
like a flash of lightning.
When used in divination it signifies success,
recognition of execution, just reward, joy,
blessedness, attainment of goals,
satisfaction, and fulfillment.
For use in magik for success in every
endeavour for motivation for completion
of tasks
When Wunjo is drawn in its upright
position it suggests happiness and
pleasure. This is an exceptionally
good rune regardless of where it
happens to lie in the spread, especially
if it appears in future aspects or
as the outcome. The rune means the full
balance of satisfaction and peace however
also calm before the change.
Wunjo announces appearance of an
unknown fair haired man who has recently
returned from a rather long lasting trip.
If the question is asked by a woman she
is going to have an emotional relationship
with that man. If the question is asked by
a man he is going to have business relations
with the announced person or to spend time
with such which will turn into friendship.
Wunjo signals travelling over water on
business or vacations which can possibly
prove very successful and pleasant.
