Sometimes it's hard to remember what happened on the final day of the Moon Kingdom. Not because I can't remember, but because it's harrowing to remember...

Where should I start?

Peace had reigned in the universe for hundreds of years. Wars were only read about in history books and combat weapons were regarded as objects of decoration. All this was thanks to the Queen of the Moon, the esteemed and beautiful Serenity whose skills lay in diplomacy and of love. The only warriors that inhabited the galaxy were the legendary Planetary Guardians that were formed by Queen Serenity herself. Each of them were champions of their respective planets and ambassadors to the Royal Court of the Moon. Their duty was to uphold peace, guide and protect the Princesses of the Moon, Princess Serenity and Princess Summer.

The Royal Court of the Moon Kingdom, held many extravagant balls where royals of neighbouring planets were invited to enjoy a night of celebration and magic. It was during one of these balls that the two sisters, Serenity and Summer, left the festivities early accompanied by their loyal and ever-watchful Planetary Guardians. Walking about the enchanted forest that surrounded the palace they arrived at the Lake of Stars, so called because of the reflection of the stars on the lake's surface at night. Here the Princesses drank from the blessed water and wished for peace to last forever.

But alas, it was not to be. On the boundaries of the galaxy a force of insurmountable evil had gathered. It was an army of darkness unlike anything that had threatened the galaxy in millions of years and it had left a trail of death and despair in its wake. Now it had its sights set on the Solar System and as the army drew nearer, darkness swept over the entire Moon Kingdom.

Screams erupted as shadow beings invaded the Moon Kingdom. Many escaped to the balconies and outdoors only to bear witness to foul, hellish demons surrounding the Palace. Each creature was more gruesome then the next and they were led by a group of mighty beings who referred to themselves as the 'Servants'. Suddenly, earth-shattering blasts shook the Kingdom and clouds of darkness began to consume the forest. As the inhabitants of the Moon Kingdom watched in fear, a titan rose from the shadowy mass and proclaimed himself the Lord of Darkness - the invincible Ancient Evil.

At the Lake of Stars, the Planetary Guardians felt a foreboding darkness sweep over the area. They ushered the Princesses of the Moon behind them and prepared for battle, the likes of which they had never trained for. Without warning a winged shadow being appeared and easily overcame the Planetary Guardians with its supreme skills in black sorcery. As the last of the Planetary Guardians fell victim to the creature's attack, the helpless Princesses could only watch in horror as the shadow creature laughed victoriously.

Meanwhile, as the Moon Kingdom crumbled to nothing, Queen Serenity suddenly appeared on top of the rubble with her famed Moon Sceptre in hand. Embedded on the top was the Imperium Silver Crystal which emitted a holy aura blessed by the Gods. The weaker minions of the legion of darkness succumbed to the rays of light issuing from the Imperium Silver Crystal and were immediately vanquished. However, the Servants and the Ancient Evil seemed to be able to withstand the powers of light, but only for a brief moment, because as the light encompassed the area the Servants and the Ancient Evil were slowly but surely overcome. But unlike the weaker shadow creatures, the Servants and the Ancient Evil were not destroyed, but merely dispersed into the galaxy.

With the immediate threat disposed of, Queen Serenity searched the ruins for her daughters. Her search led her to the Lake of Stars where she was horrified to find the dead Planetary Guardians strewn around the Lake's banks together with that of Princess Serenity. Fortunately, Queen Serenity found Summer alive but in a critical state. Using her powers of healing, Queen Serenity managed to save Summer and as she cradled her surviving daughter she revealed the truth behind the attack. She then bestowed on Summer a very important mission - the mission to rid the galaxy of the Ancient Evil and his Servants once and for all.

With her remaining powers and life-energy, Queen Serenity sent Princess Serenity and the Planetary Guardians to Earth where they would be reborn. As for Summer, being the only one alive and retaining the memories of the Moon Kingdom, she would be placed in a magical sleep only to awaken when the Ancient Evil began to stir once more. When that fateful day comes, it would be up to Summer to play the guiding force for her sister and the Planetary Guardians.

As Queen Serenity felt her own life draw to an end, she looked to the stars in the heavens and with her dying breath she whispered:

"I believe in you..."
