Scallywag Ship's Log
(April  - June 2007)
April 1st, 2007
The April Fool's Day race was a series of short races (about 2 miles).  It was designed to teach start tactics, etc.  On the first start, another boat and I almost collided.  We were both on starboard tack, he was leeward and trying to pinch me out.  I thought that I could beat him to the mark.  When we finally both turned, my boom was over his cockpit.  Phew!  Close one!
The second heat was no contest.  I shot across the line!  Sadly, my traveler failed during the race and I couldn't hold a good close haul.  They're cheap on the Lancer 28.  If anyone out there has replaced it, please let me know how the job went..

Five days of sailing, having fun, and making new friends, what could be better?
Four boats; Crescendo, Margon, Quest, and Scallywag; departed New River early morning on the 24th and headed south along the ICW.
.  We anchored/rafted-up at Sea Path (near Wrightsville Beach) that night.  Good times!
The next morning, we proceeded down to Bald Head Island, an awesome place at the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
At Rte 210 Bridge
While there, we enjoyed the hospitality of the islanders.  The marina staff and facilities were outstanding.  The lighthouse was cool!  The beaches were pristine.  The tidal forest was fun to explore.  The marshes and areas to kayak were fun.
What else can I say about the place?  I'm going there every year!
There's WAY more information on the trip and Bald Head Island than I could put in this short section.  It deserved its own page.  Please click on the link below to see more.

    Not much sailing during June.
I was forced to travel to Basrtow, CA on work for a week.  That was followed by Ashville for a week with the family for vacation.
The boat finally got a good cleaning.  Repairs were done to the woodwork in the V-berth.  Engine got a new fuel filter and needs a good tune up.
