January 1st, 2007
    The "None But The Brave" race is held every year on January 1st.  It's a test of whether you're a fair weather sailor or a true enthusiast.  Skippers are all hung over.  The weather is poor!.
     This year was no exception; It was raining cats and dogs as we cast off.  Luckily, it was 70 degrees.  And, a few minutes before the class flag dropped, the rain blew over.  We had an awesome day of 10-15 kt southerly winds.
     Many people have told me that the Lancer 28 is slow and it's 258 PHRF seems to confirm that.  Still, flying only my storm jib (my Genoa was left at home), the Scallywag managed to place 6th of 8 boats.  With 100 more square feet of sail, I'd have been a contender.
January 15, 2007 The Greatest Man I'll Ever Know
    Not really sailing related, but my father died today at 5:25pm.  As was my hope, he never got to sail with me.  Rather than having time on the boat or fishing, the only time we had was at Roswell Cancer institute.  But, I'm grateful for everything he did for me and taught me over the past 43 years.  He was 73.  I'll miss you dad!

Me Aloft
    Went up the mast today to fix a few things before the spring sailing season opens.  Put on a new VHF antenna, a topping lift, and checked the anchor light while I was up there.
     Though it's not for everyone, I like doing this kind of work.  It's FUN!
Above the Bow

    Today was the St Patty's Day Race, the first race of the spring season.  Horrible day with 35 kt wind and 4 ft waves.  My buddy, Mike, and I crashed through the waves and were in 2d place (until we ran aground).  Only one boat finished the race.
     Think your Lancer won't handle rough weather?  Trust me, it will!!!
